PFF, most improved NFL teams at every position, check out Bobby
Linebacker: Washington Commanders (+16.7)
Honorable Mentions: Denver Broncos (+12.6), Philadelphia Eagles (+12.4)
Bobby Wagner has proven to be one of the best additions of the entire 2024 offseason. The 34-year-old has revitalized a Commanders linebacker group that ranked 29th in team grade a year ago, bumping it all the way to third. Wagner’s 84.2 overall grade ranks third among all linebackers to play 500 or more snaps, and Frankie Luvu (64.4 overall grade) has been effective. Talk about upgrading from Cody Barton, Jamin Davis and Khaleke Hudson.

Odd that he left here and is better. I thought Pete and his DEI hire DC were the best at what they do? He was also better in LA the year before.

Bobby had a pretty good season last year, that is according to PFF. His defensive grade was higher than this season
His overall defensive grade is 86.9 (on a scale of 0-100, with 90 considered elite) fourth among all linebackers. He’s only had three marks higher in his career for a full season.

He also has a 93.2 run defense grade, best of any linebacker and second best of any front-seven defensive player other than Nick Bosa of the 49ers.

While some have questioned if maybe the one area where Wagner might show some slippage is in pass coverage, his PFF grades and stats are similar to his career marks.

According to PFF, Wagner has allowed a passer rating of 107.0, which is higher than his last three seasons but lower than 2019 and not drastically higher than his career average of 95.9 (and also swayed by the disaster that was the Rams game for everyone, when he allowed a rating of 118.0).

Yeah, this was a time I sure didn't really agree with PFF. Of course I am not breaking down every single play, but we sure sucked against the run last year, and he didn't seem to make much of an impact in fixing that.

Totally agree. That rating has to be influenced by his HOFer status.

Hard to say. I also just remember him making a ton of tackles after someone would catch a pass on third and medium...just beyond the sticks. Maybe I am over stating it, but last year's defense was so not fun to watch. It seemed like every punt meant the other team was going to go on a sixty five yard ten minute scoring drive. Remember the Rams' game? I think we had three possessions in the entire first half. The only scored a few points, because we kept holding them to FGs, but we eventually lost a very winnable game because the Rams defense was on the field about 70% of the game. And the Steelers game was even worse!

The Steelers game was more unbelievable when after the game Pete waxed poetic about how their RBs play the game. He was the VP of Football Ops and we had just spent two second round picks in a row on RBs. Why did you take those guys if you didn't like the way they play? Brutal. Seemed shocked the Steelers ran the ball. Almost as stupid as the time the Bills threw it sixty times against us, like they had the entire year, and he says after the game "we had a great gameplan against the run, they just didn't run it."!

This year has been so damn refreshing to me. Obviously the lowered expectations help, but it reminds me of the year after we got rid of Sherman and Bennett and guys like that and made the playoffs anyway. I felt we were taking a step back to step forward, and we never stepped back. Until just about every year after! All started by refusing to throw the ball against Dallas in the playoffs in a game we couldn't run.

The importance of Sunday's game can not be overstated. If we win we are in, if we lose we are not. imo

Then PFF is worthless. Analytics is about removing bias. What are they doing, giving him tackles he actually missed because he's going to the HOF? The impressive thing about Bobby is his consistently over the years. If anything I think I'd tend to be biased against him, the guy's 34, he's got to be slipping. Isn't that why he's playing in DC instead of Seattle?
