That’s only because defensive metrics hate him and we got a guy on our staff that can fix thatD-train wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 3:00 pmBurger is straight trash. How can you possibly want to trade anything for that guy?? Just go with Moore and Shenton instead.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 4:56 amOn this, we agree. I can't stand how he boxes himself in to a corner. And the only possible pitcher I would trade would be Castillo.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 6:13 pmApparently the M's have talked to the Phillies about Bohm.
They asked for Kirby or Gilbert.
This is what you get when you tell the world you're poor and only add talent via trade.
I guess we were linked to Christian Walker. That would not be bad: Walker, Lowe, Burger
Burger 0.5 bWAR in 579 PAs
Shenton plus Moore 2.3 bWAR in ~500 PAs

Exactly!Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:10 amThat's the thing, it's about adding offensive. So let's see, the mariners are playing the dodgers in the WS. They are nursing a one run lead going into the ninth. You manage to get Ohtani out in the eighth and guess what, he gets to come up again in the ninth. How unfair would that seem, incredibly dumb ideaTraderGary wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 10:30 pmBrilliant! I love that idea! Ever considered running for commissioner? Sarcasm of course, but I honestly think that's a great idea and far better than the silly 'golden at bat' idea they're considering.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 4:44 pm
Before radically changing the nature of the game to add offense, maybe try taking away a pitcher on the 26-man, or even 2 pitchers. This would force managers to push starters farther and maybe even bring back the long reliever role, while adding another position player (or two) to the roster.

Given our pitching staff, even a 3rd of that would put us over the top. I'll never understand how the owners can't comprehend the fact that if they were just to spend a reasonable amount (by today's standards) to improve the offense, they would more than make up for it with additional attendance, merchandise sales, revenue from the playoff games, and additional tv and advertising revenues. And as a bonus, Stanton wouldn't be the most hated man in Seattle. But instead, they're openly choosing to waste a generational pitching staff for everyone to see.tehmc wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 11:14 pmThe A's had already stated they planned to spend more this year, they only had about $62 million on the books and they were planning on spending about $100 million. It wasn't just that they were broke, they were trying to move the team and it just makes sense to add to the team while the stadium is being built to get the Las Vegas fans on their side.TraderGary wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 10:35 pmLet me get this straight. So a poverty franchise like the A's can afford to add an annual $22m+ player to their roster, but a franchise like the Mariners who have been at or near the top of the league in net profit for the last several years caps their available payroll at $16m. Got it.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 7:47 pmAnd the A's continue to get incrementally better.

Point taken, thanks. Still frosts my ass though.
I would be more mad about the Mariner's having "no money" to spend while being 16th in payroll while both the New York teams are looking to spend big while already having a payroll twice what the Mariner's current payroll is. Imagine what we could do if we could add another $150 million in payroll this year.
I just looked up Stanton's age. He's 68. I honestly thought he was around 10 years older than that and was hoping he'd be ready to ride off into the sunset in the near future. But at 68 and making more money than he'll ever know what to do with, it looks like we're stuck with him for the foreseeable future. I'm 71 and in good health, but I seriously doubt I'll see the M's in the WS before I die.

Heyman loses his shit at the suggestion that Boras is greasing his palm for suggesting other teams including the M's are in on Alonso..

I think they realize that investing in payroll will likely have a positive return but guessing that they think the ROI will be less than what they can get with their other investment opportunities outside of baseball. Not excusing it but I think it is a possible explanation. But if that is the case they should sell obviously.TraderGary wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:50 pmGiven our pitching staff, even a 3rd of that would put us over the top. Thats kind of funny it almost sounded like Heyman was almost in tears over that. Ultimate payback would be if Alonso actually signed with the M's.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 2:15 amHeyman loses his shit at the suggestion that Boras is greasing his palm for suggesting other teams including the M's are in on Alonso..![]()

Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
Seiya Suzuki is being paid 19M in each of the next two season and is 30 years old. His 3 MLB seasons have gone 113, 130 and 138 OPS+ last year. His trade calc. says he is 0.4M.
M's get
Nico 21M
Isaac P. 30M
Suzuki 0.4M
51.4M
To me, that is a one stop shop.
Why would the Cubs do it?
Because there is an article that they will move either Suzuki or Bellinger. I suppose they have younger cheaper options at the positions that these two play OF, and 1B. And both of them are upper level salaries that could be re-invested elsewhere.
Woo's value is 52.4M but what if it was a three way with the White Sox.
Presumed Garret Crochet 53.4M m to the Cubs
W.S. get Colt Emerson 48.1M, Mitch Haniger -15.5M, Harry Ford 21.4M (total 54M)
What is in it for the White Sox? They get the M's #1 prospect in a stacked system. They also get what was considered either #1 or #2 at a position that is hard to develop and has some special Craig Biggio like unique characteristics.
I doubt we could get all three I am thinking that they have a top prospect who can play 2B or 3B and so that is why they might part with one of Isaac P. or Nico H.
Make the deal for Suzuki and Nico, and then turn around and get Burger. Because fuck you Phili!
