Arenado turns down deal to go to Houston. Apparently wants to play for a team in California (he's from Newport Beach).

Deal supposedly sent prospects back to the Cardinals in exchange for eating $15 million of the salary. That's essentially one year of the remaining 3 years paid for.

He would allow a trade to the red Sox or Mets
It’s unknown exactly why Arenado doesn’t want to go to the Astros, though given his desire to join a team that can win now, Houston’s trade of Kyle Tucker to the Cubs last week couldn’t have helped its effort to land the 10-time Gold Glove Award winner.
Astros seem to be in decline, will the Mariners take advantage?

Another day of nothing. And the silence speaks volumes.

IMO Players are getting to greedy. I hope who ever signs him fall flat on their face. And the Cards come out smelling like a rose for years to come.

No, the players are taking advantage of the owners stupidity. You sign a player in his late 20's-early 30's and think they will be like that forever, so sure, let's give him a no-trade clause for the life of the contract....then are SHOCKED when his skills are not worth $35mill/ for 4-5 more years. So let's trade him...oh wait...there is that little no trade clause we gave as a perk.

Baseball should front load the contracts if you are signing a player to a 10yr $400 million deal....give the player 4 seasons at $70mill and the last 6 are $20mill each. As a player you are making more upfront as an owner you make it easier to trade a guy at the back end of his contract

That would make a contract even more expensive for an owner. The longer you delay a payment the less it's worth.

Yep, would be cheaper to through in cash to make the trade work.

Everyone is saying the Astros are giving up just like they said they were toast when we had a 10 game lead in June. We will see if that prediction is terrible too.
