"On one hand, Alonso's consistent production -- he plays all the time, has averaged 42 home runs and 110 RBIs in his five full big league seasons, and would fit in the heart of the batting order for every team in baseball -- is unimpeachable," Passan said. "On the other, his profile frightens teams: a 30-year-old, right-handed-hitting and -throwing first baseman. Teams are hesitant to give him a long-term deal. At the same time, they see great value in adding him for the next few years. The Mets could still bring him back. The (New York Yankees) could enter the fray more aggressively."
Tim Britton and Will Sammon of The Athletic reported that Mets owner Steve Cohen said that the team is "still engaged" in talks with Alonso and wants to bring him back. He would be able to slot behind outfielder Juan Soto and shortstop Francisco Lindor to give the Mets a formidable run-producing trio in the second through fourth spots in the lineup.
It's really just the Mets now, they will bring him back. They are haggling over the length of the deal.

And on the other hand, can say the same thing about the Mets, their options are dwindling as well. They need a first baseman about as badly as Alonzo needs a job. They are not in a position of strength. That's why boras is continuing to Play hardball

characterizing goofing off as being aloof?
Uninterested? Yes.

When it happens every day, your performance is suffering, and you're seemingly not in the head space to man up and compete... I'll call it aloof.

If your career was in jeopardy... would you not show up to the park, put your head down, quit the kid shit, and get to work?
To me someone aloof would be the opposite of a player goofing around, knocking hats off. Ichiro could be characterized as aloof

Aloof
not friendly or involved with other people, or not influenced by something
AI Overview
Ichiro Suzuki, a former professional baseball player, was known for being aloof and unapproachable

conspicuously uninvolved and uninterested
As an athlete who played sports at a high level, goofing off like that is aloof as it comes as it's in total contrast to focus. You're performing? Have some fun. What this guy was doing on a daily basis was like a 9 year old at a little league game.

Aloof isn't the opposite of focus. As far as interpreting from the stands, as far as we know, he's appreciated for his attempts at keeping things loose.

Is he?

I can imagine the kid show getting tired, especially when you're harming the team on the field.

He was making $6.75M and one of the most frugal teams that holds onto players entering the crypt let him go. Think about that for a second.

That's my point, it's about how you have decided to interpret it

Yep.

Which is my right as a human with eyeballs. As I've said, played sports at high levels. If I acted like Ty France, it'd be a one-way ticket to the bench with a coach telling me to focus the fuck up or stay home.

Isn't it the same sort of criticism Crawford and Jrod would receive?
