If he's anything like the 26:year old Dee Gordon I won't be complaining. My point was I wouldn't consider it a bullet dodged if they don't sign him. I wouldn't expect them to come up with a better possibly. Don't worry, I doubt they sign him

It's funny, it's always characterized as looking to upgrade. The mariners are going into the winter looking to upgrade 2nd and 3rd. Upgrade, I think it's about trying to find someone that can play the position.

I kind of agree with Donn, here. Yeah, the guy is not the best 2B in the league, but he will be an upgrade over the codwhallop we've trotted out there the last 5 years. Apparently we don't want to trade for a 2B and we aren't going after anything in free agency. So yeah, this guy could hold down the fort till prospects burst onto the scene. And he won't break the bank.

For comparison, here is what we have had at 2B the last 5 years:

Polanco .216/.296/.355 137 SOs and 4 SBs

Wong .165/.241/.226 46 SOs and 1 SB

Frazier.238/.301/.311 73 SOs and 11 SBs

DMo .181/.276/.334 111 SOs and 31 SBs

Dee .200/.286/.291
Dee .274/.304/.359

Kim career .306/.364/.403 with at least 20 steals per season and a low strikeout rate. He gets on base, and he steals base. Even factoring in the regression due to transitioning to the majors, he's better than just about anything since Cano. And he is an elite defender (2 Gold Gloves at SS and 2B), and we should not expect a regression there as he enters his prime years.

He's young and cheap. He gets on base. He doesn't strike out and he draws walks. He's a poor man's Arreaz, and he's head and shoulders better than what we've had recently. Is he our best option? No. But the M's won't go after our best options.

I think this is going to happen. For the Mariners, I guess they see it as the player having a utility player floor and probably a ceiling similar to his near namesake Ha-Seong Kim.

Now let's go sign offensive juggernaut Justin Turner!

I'm gonna be relieved if he signs, it would be a start. Then on to third and first. Heck the deadline is Friday
Kim, who will be 26 years old this season, is considered an elite defender and a solid runner. There are questions about how his offense will translate, but he did hit .326 in the KBO in 2024. Given that the Mariners have struggled at second base since 2019, Kim represents a young player with upside and athleticism. His ability to make contact should help the Mariners strike out less,

He is unproven as Bliss and Rivas and a lot more expensive. Probably better than Rivas but basically a LH Bliss minus the power. His almost namesake Ha Seong Kim put up a .622 OPS his rookie season. That would be my expectation.

Cheaper than extending Polanco (in the short term, at least). Kim figures to get 3 years and $15MM. Polanco had a team option for 1 year and $12MM. We would be getting a younger, faster, better defender than Polanco.

As I say, not the best option out there, but likely the best, most realistic option. Still an upgrade.

Apparently the M’s are still taking to the Jays about a Castillo trade. If they get Kim, they likely won’t want Bichette (unless they stick him at 3B). But it gives me hope that they might get Vlad. His extension talks have stalled. Maybe we get Vladdy at 1B and then offer an extension. That would be a coup.

Lot of unsubstantiated rumors that he chose us. Could be BS but it is stemming from KBO accounts with 15-20k followers.

I wonder if they can start him in the minors somewhere.
