Watch them shock the world by signing both Bregman and Alonso lol it sorta happened before when we landed Beltre and Sexson on the same day.
They really could, Pack up Haniger to the Whitesox with a prospect for a nothing prospect. =17.5M
Trade Castillo for a player. make it a 3-way for Lowe. that saves you another 13.6M

They had around 20M, + 31.1M from those moves.

MLBTR top 50 with predictions has #7 Alonso at 5/125M, &#3 Bregman at 7 years for 182M. I thought that is a bit high on the 31-year-old Bregman, and a little soft on the age 30-34 season for Alonso. But let's use those predictions.
Pete adds 25M/year
Alex adds 26M a year

Even money:
1. Robles RF
2. Raley* DH
3. JRod CF
4. Pete 1B
5. Cal** C
6. Bregman 3B
7. Lowe* 2B
8. Randy LF
9. JP* SS

Bench Garver, Moore, Bliss, ?
Which prospect do you think is worth Haniger's salary?

It's not turning on the season payroll, what scares them is the total contract involved. Stanton is on record for his distaste for major long term contracts.

That and they aren't getting Alonso away from the Mets
They view the Cano contract as a major mistake in the history of the franchise.

I guess, they got good value out of it so I don't know why. It's the cost of doing business. Honestly if they don't have the stomach for it they should get out

The site has any of our top 5 worth over his $15-17M salary.

I think it was a nightmare for them, seeing that huge liability and projecting the player decline, even though he was still hitting. I would say they definitely don't have the stomach for it.

I guess you mean the trade values site. I just think it's bad process, personally, to make trading away your top prospects to get rid of bad money a regular thing. And what are they going to do with the money saved? They aren't going to sign Alonso or Bregman, and they especially aren't going to pay the extra premium needed for those players to come play in this ballpark.

Who cares? You could do like Cole Young who is valued at 22+M for a top lefty BP prospect.

Or you go like Tyler Locklear + the comp pick

Too many possible options depending on trade partner.

Totally agree. The phrase chasing your tail comes to mind but considering this org is Ass it makes sense.

As I said, I think it's fundamentally bad process, especially for short term bad money like Haniger and Garver. And then secondly, there's zero reason to think the Mariners will then take that as an opportunity to go sign Bregman or Alonso. They just aren't going to commit to those kind of deals. It's the opposite of what they do.

There's really no relationship between hanigers money and them considering a Bergman contract
