Likely outcome for the rest of the offseason
Likely outcome for the rest of the offseason
We are less than a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting. So far we have made zero moves and spent zero dollars. The clock is ticking. And maybe we are waiting for the Sasaki sweepstakes before the final dominoes fall, but maybe we are stuck with the roster we have.
What do you all think the M's will do between now Spring Training?
Choose all that apply.

Good news, we spent 3.5 million dollars today! We've got 11.5 million dollars left, so that's three more old utility players. HANG THE BANNER!!!Big_Maple wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 9:37 pmWe are less than a month away from pitchers and catchers reporting. So far we have made zero moves and spent zero dollars. Honestly why would any player want to come here. Ownership proving they don’t care about getting better.

We have a "lights out" pitching staff but can't score runs. I suggest the staff try to limit their ERA's to 0.00.
And I think Jerry is becoming shy of dumpster diving because he's read that in print more than a few times... possibly even here.

If you get paid a few million to play a silly kids game, even when you know the franchise ain't goin' nowhere, can alleviate the sour taste in your mouth knowing you are playing for yourself and not the organization to go anywhere.
The M's like to say they are contenders, but they are nothing more than pretenders.

I'm so sick of you people. Staying out of the top end of the FA market is a prudent approach given the rate 30+ yr olds are falling off in the 2020s. 4/5 of FA contracts do not end well for the franchise. Why even dabble in it?
If you're only a fan to see FAs signed to big deals and then play 1 or 2 good years, go be a fan of the Yankees or the Dodgers. Seriously. I'm done reading the whining.
The M's have an outstanding nucleus that needs to continue to develop into the Hall of Fame talents that they can be. That includes Rodriguez, Raleigh, Kirby, Gilbert and Castillo. They also have strong AS-level talents in players like Robles, Raley, Crawford, Arozarena, Brash, Miller, Woo, Munoz, Taylor who need to keep ascending.
There's also a plethora of talent on the farm that is maturing. Players like Bliss, Ford, Young, Emerson, Arroyo and Locklear are nearing the chance to impact this club. The M's have never been as deep on the farm as they will be come July 2025 post draft. Ms are set to add two (maybe 3) top 25 IFAs, plus 3 top-40 MLB draft picks to a farm system already in the top 5 according most evaluators.
So settle in for some great baseball over the next decade or see yourself out. The Dodgers can always use another bandwagoner

Well, respectfully, if you don't like reading posts, then don't read them. I kind of operated under the assumption that a discussion board was for discussions. Admonishing and chastising folks for expressing their opinions on a board specifically dedicated for expressing opinions makes no sense to me.Vogelbomb wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 6:15 pmI'm so sick of you people. I'd say that whatever the M's have done since Jerry came on board hasn't fully translated into success. We've made the playoffs (as a wild card) once, and won a World Series never. We spent good money after bad on players that haven't panned out. We've sat on our hands and pinched our pennies rather than going after serious free agents that could move the needle. The fans are not just restless anymore, they want heads on pikes. Ticket prices increase, the merchandise is unaffordable, the owners line their pockets, and there are zero results to show for it. I'd say that the life-long fans who have waited patiently for their team to win a championship have earned the right to gripe about it. That's literally all they can do.
So yeah, we have a great farm system. Yeah, there is unproven talent coming through the system. Yeah, we have a great pitching staff. But I think it would be insane to suggest that we have all of the pieces in place to make it to the playoffs this season. It hasn't even started yet, and we're already out of contention.

IDk, tickets and merch are just as affordable at the Safe as they are around the sport. Think baseball is costly, try getting into a Kraken game.
Re: Likely outcome for the rest of the offseason
I'd love to go to a Kraken game. I grew up in Canada and was a hockey fan forever. I moved to Seattle which, at the time, had no hockey team. Then I moved away and they got one.
So I guess I am stuck weeping over the heartbreaking Mariners. Just call me Marquis de Sade.

Those two good years might be what are good enough to put you over the top and win you a pennant or even a championship. What you will have is a guarantee that your team will be significantly better in that time than it is now. You have to take chances, especially with the pitching staff we have which we might never have again.Vogelbomb wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 6:15 pm

Championships have to be seized, they don't just get dropped off on your front porch by Amazon. And really, we're just talking Alonso and (Padres, not KBL) Kim here. Or Castillo for Casas & Yoshida which apparently was on the table. Understand too that our players are human beings and not avatars from The Show. I'd bet that a few of them (like Raleigh) are really disappointed every winter and can't wait to get the hell out of Seattle.
This talk about our farm system is nothing new. We talked about it with Hultzen/Paxton/Walker, we talked about it with Ackley/Smoak/Montero, and if this forum had existed in the '80s we would have been turning cartwheels at our farm system. It can't be either the farm or the free agent market, it has to be both. That's how the Asstros did it, and don't be surprised if in a year or two they're right back on top.
Not sure what you're sick of, especially when you're making a wild presumption that we're going to embark on a great decade of baseball based on our farm system. I'm kind of wondering if you're not actually Jerry DiPoto's forum account.
