A little nugget from the Kramer article on MLB yesterday.

He said the M's were trying to land Nate Lowe from the Rangers. First I had heard that... although it's not surprising given the need at 1B. The Rangers got a high-peripheral low-performing (-0.2 bWAR in '24) reliever for him back.

Kramer says the Rangers were cautious about trading him to the M's due to it being interdivision but they really couldn't beat that offer to make it worth their while lol?

I'm confused, isn't he a national?

The Texas Rangers acquired left-handed reliever Robert Garcia from the Washington Nationals in a trade Sunday for past Gold Glove and Silver Slugger first baseman Nathaniel Lowe.

Why would you not do an intra-division trade if you think you can *win it"? Any trade you make is with the expectation of improving your club. Do you think that GMs are risk averse and don't want any possibility of a division rival improving?

It applies to particular players. You don't want them coming back and beating you. Like for instance the angles would be unlikely to trade Trout to the mariners only to have him come back repeatedly each season and beating them. It more likely be a trade to the Phillies in the other league.

If a GM is worth their salt they are confident enough to make a trade with a division rival knowing they are getting better and the rival is getting worse. Only reason not to is because if you are so insecure you think it will come back to haunt you. Weak AF.
