The Purge
Re: The Purge
What's going on with USAID seems ill considered to me. They've gotten some nice headlines around nonsense like the grant for a transgender opera in Colombia and a few others, but that doesn't mean the entire concept of USAID is bad just because a narcissistic aspy says so.

Seems like they have some issues to sort out at the very least.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:16 pmWhat's going on with USAID seems ill considered to me. We've seen lib rag media outlets all of a sudden unable to make payroll now that it's shut down. Maybe it's unrelated.. guess we'll see.
We've seen commies and terrorists apparently funded by USAID.
Until we see it negatively affect anything, I'm happy to see it play out.

But why not just do an audit?bpj wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:27 pmSeems like they have some issues to sort out at the very least.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:16 pmWhat's going on with USAID seems ill considered to me. And why are US government employees overseas being locked out of their email? Are we abandoning our people? Is that another Trump win?
Re: The Purge
Sounds like they're on paid vacation now. We're supposed to feel bad because they can't log in to work? From what Ive heard the foreign workers were offered free return flights within 30 days.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:33 pmBut why not just do an audit?bpj wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:27 pmSeems like they have some issues to sort out at the very least.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2025 9:16 pmWhat's going on with USAID seems ill considered to me. They've apparently uncovered corruption they feel warrants shutting it down and not allowing access.
I have no idea why, but everything I've seen points to big problems imo, so I'm willing to see it play out.
Haven't heard of anything that's actually essential being shut down, have you? I haven't seen everything obviously, so open to new info because shutting it down does seem drastic.
That's exactly the type of thing I voted for, although I had no idea what USAID even was. If it's the head of the snake, so be it.

Re: The Purge
USAID is less than 1/2 of one percent of the federal budget. Everybody gets all bent out of shape over foreign aid but it's tiny. The issue is defense and SS. This stuff is good for headlines but it doesn't amount to anything. Let's see musk go after the defense department like he's gone after USAID,

And I will add, I think there's more in play here than trimming government. That's concentrating power in the office of the president. They are grabbing huge handfuls of authority. It can go to the courts but even then it's not clear trump would obey a court decision. You guys can clap all you want that it's the Donald getting the power but keep in mind, what goes around comes around. The next president to follow could be a Democrat and at the rate we're going they could practically be a King, and I don't feel I'm exaggerating that much. This has been going on for a long time, the presidency gaining power. The Obama administration had a big hand in it, pushing the legal boundaries of presidential actions. He did it to get around a republican congress. I didn't like it but others thought it was clever. And nobody was anticipating Donald getting the ball and really running with it.

Re: The Purge
Like I said, it's not the doing or undoing I care about. It's the process they are creating to go about it

Millions in direct subsidy to Wuhan University and Wuhan Lab through USAID. Reality check.
Congress will pull the plug on the gravy train.
