1. QB Cam Ward (In 2023 I said he was the 2nd best QB in the nation and got laughed at, now he's going #1 overall)
Sure, he is number one this year, no question, but in 2023 he was behind:
1. Caleb J
2. Jayden D
3. Drake M
4. Michael P

plus maybe JJ and Bo as well - they're debatable.

not retracting any laughs for that, but kudos for having an independent opinion. you can laugh at me when he makes his first all pro. :)
I'd draw that line under Jayden, and we've yet to see Caleb do anything special since USC 2022. Penix? k  and Drake hasn't held his own yet either, and I don't expect him to be much more than another Jay Cutler. I do like JJ's college days, but Cam will be better. I like Bo's moxie but not a cut above Cam either.

I was with you on seeing the upside talent Ward had, just paled by comparison to last year's epic class, with 4 guys of at least equal upside but also far more proven success. He has the disadvantage of going to a bad team (as most top picks do), but the advantage of going to a weak division, so will be interesting to track his results. definitely higher ceiling but also lower floor than Sanders and perhaps also even Dart.

My only concern about my Hawks pick is if JS will be averse to take another non Power 5 guy because Haynes was such a bust.

Given that he wasn't on anyone's radar last year, I'll take these opinions with a grain of salt. I suppose we will see how it plays out over the next year or few.
Ward had zero stars coming out of High school, and a 3 star rating once he entered the transfer portal to Miami. He had an alarming number of interceptions and neither him nor Shadeur made as many 2nd progression completions as Jaxon Dart did(which happened to be 30% below J.J. McCarthy). Dart also didn't have a sack problem in college like Ward or Sanders. I do however think that Ward has the better arm. So I'm not nearly as high on Ward as last year's group.
All sorts of inaccurate information in your response. "Alarming number of interceptions"? Sack problems were his when he was one of the most pressured QBs in D1? Perhaps you could also say he was one of the best in the country at evading sacks. He didn't go to Miami under pure luck. He was the #1 sought transfer in the country coming out of 2023.

Just watch the game film and compare it against those drafted in the 1st round last year. His talent sticks out like a sore thumb.
That info is straight from the mouth of Brett Whitefield. He's got a track record of success a mile long. I'll take his word over yours. No offense. I've watched so much tape of Ward I'm about to go blind. He has a highly talented arm, but he makes some of the most bizarre decisions that I've ever seen in a QB. Maybe he'll figure it out in Tennesse. Nobody is questioning his talent.

When Kalen DeBoer was asked on who he thought was an alpha, Tyler Booker's name couldn't come out his name fast enough. I'll be happy if him or Zabel's name is on the card at 18.
