That would have been a great argument 20 years ago before inter league play but now it's just f****** ridiculous
Not really. If I was Boston I wouldn't want to trade in in the AL and end up watching that team make the playoffs every year. Inter League wouldn't have much impact, in my opinion. Still? If the offer for Devers was good enough? They wouldn't care, but the rumor is that they weren't interested in trading him inside the division. Of course? That could be some bullshit being spewed around here to take the heat off of the Mariner FO.
There's no heat on the front office right now.

You don't think the Boston fo is taking heat? The reason they signed Dever to that contract was the heat they already were under for moves like trading Betts. There was considerable pressure to not do the same thing with Dever. So right in the middle of the season, on a five game winning streak and just after sweeping the Yankees they trade him, and in the second year of his contract. He was supposed to be the face of the franchise for years to come. I think it's unbelievable. I think keeping him outside the AL crossed their minds, they sure as heck weren't trading him to the Yankees

"We were all excited. We just swept the Yankees. We love our team and instead of being excited, I'm devastated," a fan told WBZ. "It's wild. We have traded Mookie Betts and Devers in the last five years. Our two best players and we got, essentially, nothing in return for either of them."

"We don't yet have all the info, but this is a sad ending for Red Sox fans," wrote former Red Sox assistant general manager and executive vice-president Zack Scott. "The entire saga feels like organizational malpractice."

Funny, it occurred to me the plan is to use the Devers money to extend bregman this off season, basically trading Devers for bregman. This is in today's news feed
"Oh, but Bregman will be back soon, you say? Yep, and the Sox can bank on him opting out at the end of the season," Rosenthal wrote. "No problem, just give Bregman the money the Sox saved with Devers, right? That sound you hear is the cackling of Bregman's agent, Scott Boras, who, according to unconfirmed reports, was last seen rolling on the floor in hysterics."

I think he meant no heat on the Mariners FO, and there isn't. We could trade our best player and the entire local media besides maybe Softie would be telling us how ingenious it was, fans would continue to flock to the games, and the national media would spend five minutes talking about the team from Southern Alaska that no one pays any attention to because we haven't earned any attention.

Two playoff wins in 23 years. One trip to the playoffs in 23 years, and this team continues to under spend and shove this bullshit about drafting and developing being the only way. Fuckers actually told us we should be happy!? Still? They make money hand over fist because no one gives a shit.

I was referring to the Mariners front office. There's very little local media here and the fan base, for the most part, are casual fans with low expectations.

I think there's heat on the mariners FO to add a bat, you're hearing rumors now that Stanton is willing to increase payroll and Dipoto's seat is getting warm.

If you ask AI
Several MLB general managers are under significant pressure to win, particularly as the trade deadline approaches and the season progresses. Key names include Mike Hazen (Diamondbacks), David Dombrowski (Phillies), Jerry Dipoto (Mariners), Chris Young (Rangers), Mike Elias (Orioles), and Jed Hoyer (Cubs). These executives face pressure to improve their teams' playoff chances and make impactful decisions during the trade deadline.
Going into the season I would have been in agreement that the mariners were immune to pressure but I get the feeling that's changing.

Decades of proof otherwise makes me disagree with you. What has changed? Have you seen or heard locally of this pressure to win now? All I read or hear is excuse making for why they are doing the very best they could possibly can. It's a joke show. You couldn't lose a Super Bowl by throwing a second down interception in very many places, but here? You can. You can't go decades and only have one playoff appearance in baseball. But here? You can.
