Guy can throw 105 mph with accuracy? Maybe he should be pitching...

Arozarena not doing his job to tell Crawford to slide

Sure but unless Randy tells him to come in standing up, he should slide. No downside to sliding other than dirty laundry.

I just don't buy that he's the best defensive OF in the AL. When is the last time he made a catch to rob a HR or threw someone out at home or 3rd?
Trust me when I say, and it should be pretty evident, I'm not a Julio defender by any margin.

But he's top 3% in range in baseball. His ability to cover space in CF is truly better than anyone else.
Okay, i'll accept that partly because i don't watch the games. It just seems to me that he gets extra votes due to the hype created by his rookie season and HR derby performances. Franklin Gutierrez had a similar WAR in 2009 and wasn't an all-star, and Mike Cameron consistently put up better offensive numbers, including in his 4 seasons in Seattle and was an all-star once despite being one of the better defensive outfielders in the game.

Fans vote for the names they know, not the ones playing well. Julio making an All Star teams tells us a lot about how much we should care about who makes the All Star team. Not much.

Bear in mind he got to take a few steps, wind up, and fired it, but even so you'd imagine he could bring it in the upper 90s. Maybe the second-best ever hosing against the Mariners after Bo Jackson gunning down Harold Reynolds from the warning track.

2/3 of the vote for reserves is by players and coaches.

Well they are pissed in Toronto and Boston...if it's a popular contest why would Julio be more popular than Springer? Did the league need to balance the roster, need a center fielder?

Another shutout! And in sweeping fashion!

Also I think the arms are alright now but man 1 run is only going to do it vs the pirates. Hope to see some internal or external moves to get a bat or two.
Ms have scored the 18th most runs in the game at 402 (only 12 teams with more) and we know about the home environment. I am OK with the offense. That doesn't mean I don't want to see the lineup shuffled (Dom or Polanco should move up, JRod down) and players like JRod and Polanco to turn it on and Harry Ford brought up, but I just don't see a need to give away upper echelon young talent (whomever it may be, I don't pretend to know what team x is going to ask for. They may want Montes, they may want Sloan, they may want Arroyo or Celesten) for little to no upgrade over in-house players.

A 1B like O'Hearn shouldn't cost much. I'd be OK with a theoretical O'Hearn for Walter Ford + Michael Morales + Michael Hobbs/Juan Burgos/Suisbel type of package (Os probably want pitching)

But yeah, I just don't see need for big external moves.
Heading into Monday's games, the Mariners ranked second in the American League with an OPS+ of 113 and 12th in the league with an ERA+ 98 (after three weekend shutouts):

https://www.baseball-reference.com/leag ... 2025.shtml

On a bright note, this season the Mariners have won eight games facing starting pitchers named to the 2025 All Star teams: Hunter Brown, Garrett Crochet*, Jacob deGrom*, Max Fried, Tarik Skubal, Shane Smith*, Matthew Boyd and Paul Skenes.

* the Mariners have also lost games that Crochet, deGrom and Smith started

Are you suggesting the Commissioner's office made the selection?
