We in the USA, until recently referred to it as "The British Open". The population of 340 million.
Just by shear volume, it should be called The British Open......

Honestly, I like to refer to it as "The Open" because then you need to explain it to the people that are casual golf fan.

Are you playing and picking some players or just arguing about the name?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 11:26 amWhat was it called then?mostonmike wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 8:04 amIts never been called the British Open. That's just what you lot call it.....![]()

Think of it like Football. The rest of the entire planet calls it "American Football" because soccer is universally called "football".
Who's right? If the NFL is football then this tournament is, and always has been "The Open"

The term "soccer" originated in England as a slang abbreviation of "association football." It was popularized by students at Oxford and Cambridge universities in the late 19th century, who often added "-er" to the end of words. While the English initially used "soccer," they eventually reverted to calling it "football," while the term "soccer" became more common in the United States and other countries where other football codes were popular.

It was a relatively accurate list taken from the Exemptions List. Couple of injury doubts been discussed.
Here's the tee-times if you want to do a double check.
