The flaw in your logic is that the ways you mentioned people can be killed are:

1. Not meant for mass killing.

2. Not the most efficient way to mass kill.

Nobody is advocating for you keeping a hand gun on you for self defense. People are advocating for not letting civilians have weapons that do what they did a couple of days ago or that can mow down 30 kids in a matter of minutes.

You don't need a sniper to defend your family. You don't need an assault rifle to defend your family.
