According to Trump, late night hosts aren't allowed to criticize him anymore: https://newrepublic.com/post/200666/tru ... ot-allowed

I think it's a sad day for the country when the government actively tries to stifle speech like this. Thankfully, our system is robust and speech is still largely free. This isn't East Germany with informers infiltrated throughout society. But it still sucks.
Personally I don't think what Kimmel said was too bad but the Corporations that own the ABC affiliates have every right to cancel shows as they see fit. All Trump said is that is was probably because he had low ratings. That website is a Left leaning website so not surprised the made stuff up to get their readers riled up.
There's a pretty strong chain of events. Brendan Carr of the FCC has been pretty open about it, bragging actually.
I agree with what most of what people are saying here. Anyone saying that Kimmel's free speech rights were violated is completely misunderstanding the 1st Amendment. The affiliates had every right to pull the plug and ABC/Disney has ever right to suspend Kimmel.

But I am upset about is the involvement of Chair of the FCC, Carr, in implicitly (or explicitly) putting pressure on broadcasters -- who after all, are licensed by the FCC. For what reason? Because Kimmel was critical of MAGA? Because Kimmel took a poke at the President?

The issue is the FBI, the attorney general, the governor of Utah all disclosed all the evidence and it points to a far left ideology - including incriminating texts and admissions he was doing it for his transitioning lover (I'm not even sure what to call that - ha) and this was all made public - and Kimmel went on the air AFTER all of this was disclosed and confirmed and basically 'blamed trump" or MAGA. That could be criminal and actionable - I am not sure of the precedent. That is the issue. Above the lying - that likely also triggers a liability issue - could Disney be SUED over this. Any government involvement outside of criminality I agree would be unwarranted intrusion.

Objectively - Kimmel lied on the air about a murder - the facts had been made public. It begins and ends there. There is a huge liability issue - alienating the audience issue - and NONE of this is a first amendment issue - that's the predictable "spin' nonsense the retards put on it for the retard followers who refuse to EVER accept any responsibility for their actions.

At what point did Kimmel blame MAGA or Trump? Can you link to a source? And at what point did he lie?

The video is all over the internet - have you not watched? If you haven't, why are you commenting on it?

“The MAGA gang (is) desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said on his show.

The fact you aren't even aware - while posting about it - is, well, not at all unexpected. Absolutely on brand for the usual suspects. Throw a tantrum about things you know nothing about. Tyler is not MAGA - he is a far left wackadoodle. He was doing it for trans rights - he said so. His lover/boyfriend told the FBI this. Kimmel is a far left loonie LITERALLY lying about it on air to millions of people - 'trying to score political points from it." Notice the always present HYPOCRISY from the left? Kimmel got exactly what he deserved - the market place isn't interested in this lunatic nonsense anymore.

wash, rinse repeat.

No, I saw it. I just wasn't sure what you were referring to. The passage that you quoted wasn't a lie. At the time, the killer's motives were still ambiguous. All anybody knew at the time was that he came from a far right MAGA family. Now maybe Kimmel should have kept his mouth shut, which is a fair criticism.

But the problem here, for me, is that regardless of what Kimmel said, this is still the government pressuring Disney/ABC to take him off the air, which should be totally unacceptable. If this is the new standard, will you be equally supportive, under a Democratic administration, of the government fact checking Fox news every night?

This is a spot on take by Bill O'Reilly - including having compassion for Kimmel. I support Kimmel saying whatever he wants within the framework of legality and broadcast standards. I don't take issue with it - but he lied - the info was already out there - period. If Kimmel wasn't so all-consumed with hate we wouldn't be here. But he is - and he's a perfect torch bearer for the left - it's all about Trump hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate. Every single night it's just hate hate hate hate hate. And for a late night comedy show - hate just isn't funny. Nor is shitting on over half the country. These are incredibly bad business decisions. No rational person wants to be around non stop hate and faux outrage - it's been played to death. Watch the tape - O'Reilly makes excellent points - don't bother pointing out he's conservative - we already know - LISTEN to the message - it's RATIONAL - unlike anything that ever comes out of the cesspool that is the perpetually angry and hateful left. Jesus christ - the HATE from those people.

Was that a lie? I think the statement was stupid, but I also think you would have a hard time proving it was a lie. (for the record, I suspect that most leftists didn't want the assassin to be a leftist - so what?

I'd agree its more "stupidity" than a lie. No surprise coming from cross-eyed Jimmy.

You have to be pretty stupid to think a conservative is going after Kirk (or Trump).

There is also the matter of the conglomerates who own the local stations being pressured. They have business before the FCC. And apparently they felt pressure. The FCC or the President threatening broadcasters for lawful speech is wrong.

None other than Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) -- by the way, does ANYONE like this guy? -- said:
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz slammed Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr for pressuring ABC to pull comedian Jimmy Kimmel off the airwaves, warning fellow Republicans the threats create an "unbelievably dangerous" precedent that could haunt conservatives.

The Texas Republican, in a new episode of his podcast released Sept. 19, compared Carr's tactics to those of a mob boss as he denounced the FCC chairman's threats to revoke ABC's television license before the network indefinitely suspended "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

"He says, 'We can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way,'" Cruz said, referring to Carr. "That's right out of 'Goodfellas.' That's right out a mafioso coming into a bar going, 'Nice bar you have here. It’d be a shame if something happened to it.'"

Cruz made clear he is not a fan of Kimmel and disapproves of Kimmel's remarks regarding the Kirk assassination. But he said the government should not be able to dictate what is appropriate for public airwaves.

"I think it is unbelievably dangerous for government to put itself in the position of saying we're going to decide what speech we like and what we don't, and we're going to threaten to take you off the air if we don't like what you're saying," Cruz said.

Cruz said a Democrat down the road will be in the White House once again, warning, "They will silence us. They will use this power, and they will use it ruthlessly.

"It might feel good right now to threaten Jimmy Kimmel, but when it is used to silence every conservative in America, we will regret it."
