When you think about hit his career trajectory has mirrored Julio's with his rookie year being the best and then declining in year 2 and 3 albeit a lower high and much lower lows but Julio's best season was his forth which was this season. Can woolen replicate that?

Both Love and Witherspoon re-aggravated injuries (from earlier in the season) against the Cardinals on Thursday. Makes you wonder if they had just had a few more days to rest and heal up perhaps they would have made it through okay. In any case, they probably shouldn't have played and i question the trainers and medical staff for giving them the go ahead.

Griffin is 30 yo born in July 1995 just before the epic M's run. Not young but not old either. Was a good not great CB. Seems to young to be relegated to a PS.

sure, lets second guess, witherspoon suffered the injury against the 49ers, he did manage to play a couple of games afterwards. Heck, they should have just put him on the IR. I don't think these guys really are in the position to get completely healthy, they are there to play football games

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald gave a slew of updates on Wednesday, involving injured players and less-injured players. But an announcement of a different sort squeaked through, further complicating the news regarding Riq Woolen.

After two games filling in, Derion Kendrick is in the mix for an intriguing roster shake-up.

Just days after a report “leaked” about teams expressing interest in trading for Riq Woolen, Brian Nemhauser asked straight up if the above positional shift might be an option.

That shift would be Derion Kendrick - with two interceptions in two starts, and many more pass breakups besides - could outright become the slot corner. Now let’s be very clear: the question was phrased if Kendrick could “compete” for nickel, which is why Macdonald said the “short” answer is yes. That’s because Kendrick is not competing with Devon Witherspoon.

But Witherspoon is a monster many places, and has been an effective outside cornerback before.

Additionally, Macdonald’s defense uses false pressure packages, blitzes cornerbacks, and rotates traditional positions so often, it’s why guys like Spoon and Nick Emmanwori are high on his priority list.

No, the competition is really between Josh Jobe and Riq Woolen for the second outside corner position. Or, more accurately, the “competition” (which is a bit of forecasting guesswork right now) is if the combination of Kendrick, Witherspoon, Emmanwori, and Jobe is better than Woolen, Witherspoon, Emmanwori, and Jobe.

It’s not a 1-to-1 trade out, it’s a full shift-to-your-left rotation that would bump Woolen down the depth chart.

Hence the reports. As noted by most of the Seattle beat, probably put out by the team itself to gauge interest, as they have seen this coming.

They go on to say its probably doubtful they move Woolen because of the injury risk, but on the other hand, MM has already shown a willingness to make pretty dramatic midseason personnel changes.

I also want to respond to what seems to be complaining here about Witherspoon, the guy is a player. And not only that he fits MM's style of defense. His hybrid qualities really make him valuable in MM's defense, his different packages and looks, MM can move Witherspoon all over the place

Witherspoon didn’t have the best coverage DVOA among slot cornerbacks, but he does so much besides just cover guys. He led all cornerbacks in run tackles but also in “pass tackle stops,” the number of times he stopped a receiver after a catch but prevented a successful gain. We know he’s excellent when blitzing as well. For the second spot, Williams was neck and neck with rookies Cooper DeJean and Tykee Smith, and I ended up going with the eye test on this one. Whenever I watched Arizona this year, I was always thinking, “Oh, there’s Garrett Williams with another incomplete pass again.”

Witherspoon had a 76.1 PFF rating last year which is an above average starter. People that rip on him seem to think he should be more of a RS type shutdown corner but he isn't that type of player.
