So, turning the ball over means he is being aggressive? Darnold threw two picks against the Steelers. So, in every other game combined? He has just the one, at the end of the last game, when they were forced to throw it and be more aggressive. How the fuck does that equal being overly aggressive? The only way to have a turnover is to be over aggressive? You are so concerned to try and take a jab at anyone questioning this staff, you don't even spend the time to research the stats you cherry picked.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 3:32 pmAnother troubling aspect with this team are the turnovers. They turn the ball over a lot. You can characterize MM as a defensive minded coach but that runs counter to it. Pete was obsessive about not turning the ball over. It's plays like that that put you in harms way. In that sense MM is being aggressive. Of all the ways to look at that loss, don't turn the ball over and you probably win the game.

YOU don't have your star QB run the option - the QB almost ALWAYS takes a shot on that play - no chance Kubiak puts Darnols in that position. That's why you use MIlroe

Who said overly aggressive? I said that is a difference between MM's team so far and Pete'sMichael K. wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 3:41 pmSo, turning the ball over means he is being aggressive? Pete Carroll is/was borderline obsessive about taking care of the ball, and Seattle accordingly only had two seasons (2010 and 2022) in which they ranked in the bottom half of the league in most giveaways. Macdonald’s first year saw the Seahawks rank 24th in giveaways and now they’re tied for 29th in this category to start October.

Fine, you didn't say overly. But anyone saying MM is aggressive hasn't been watching the games.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 4:00 pmWho said overly aggressive? I said that is a difference between MM's team so far and Pete's

we are talking about that particular play, that's what he said about the play...Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:21 pmFine, you didn't say overly. that's what I said about the playYou start getting conservative and not calling stuff because you’re scared, we don’t want to live like that. The play didn’t go our way, could have made a better pitch, could have had a better pitch relationship. We want to take care of the football, that’s number one, but we want to stay aggressive too.”
That's how he looks at it and i agree with him, he's trying to be aggressive and risking turning the ball overPete was obsessive about not turning the ball over. It's plays like that that put you in harms way. In that sense MM is being aggressive.

You can look at metrics and MM is not like the least aggressive coach out there, and he is more aggressive than Pete..

https://www.fieldgulls.com/2025/1/15/24 ... l-analysisThis is one of my favorite subplots of Coach Macdonald’s rookie season. That’s a bar graph of Seattle’s 4th down aggressiveness courtesy of rbsdm.com, created by Field Gulls alum Ben Baldwin. It is extremely simplistic and wrong to correlate 4th down decisions with having a great team, but the main point if that Macdonald was far more willing to go for it on 4th down with a struggling offense than Pete Carroll was with several vastly superior offenses. Carroll routinely ranked in the bottom-half of the NFL in 4th down aggressiveness, particularly in the back-half of his career.
Fears that a coach who comes from a defensive background would lean conservative and “trust his defense” and punt/kick field goals on 4th down were unfounded. Considering that Raheem Morris and Dan Quinn are also at the top of this list, perhaps the statement is more of a myth than anything founded in reality.

https://www.fieldgulls.com/2025/2/1/243 ... -nfl-statsOne of the storylines for Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald in his first season was how he’d approach fourth downs compared to his predecessor, Pete Carroll.
Early returns suggest that Macdonald isn’t ‘Must-Go’ Mike, but he’s at least shown more of a willingness to leave his offense on the field on fourth down than Pete.
If you go by FTN Fantasy’s Aggressiveness Index, Macdonald is 20th out of 33 qualifying coaches for the 2024 season.

You watch the Seahawks play offensive football and see aggressive play calling. We'll have to agree to disagree.

How are you defining aggressive play calling?Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 8:40 pmYou watch the Seahawks play offensive football and see aggressive play calling. We'll have to agree to disagree.
You don't think they are being aggressive enough?Since Week 2, Seattle ranks fourth in offensive points per game (29.8), fourth in EPA per play (+0.14), first in yards per play (6.6), third in offensive touchdowns (14) and first in yards per pass attempt (9.7).

That's more about how the offense has functioned overall than aggressiveness. You would probably have to look at specific situations although i don't know where you'd begin with that. I think the two examples of appearing to settle for long field goal attempts rather than get the 1st down carry more weight because the stakes were higher (i.e. higher leverage). But you could look at decisions to go for it on 4th down or throw downfield on 3rd and long and so forth and there has been an improvement there i think.

I'd say 88 yards passing in game one after the two minute warning wasn't very aggressive. I'd say folding up shop twice and settling for long FGs isn't aggressive, and I'd say the sheet number of basic dive plays resulting in little to no gain isn't aggressive.
I'd say I watch our offense and a lot of times I'm frustrated. Again, agree to disagree I guess.
