Why would they not want a six hour game. They literally get double the ad revenue and the clients get double the exposure.
A game that finishes at 2:40 in the morning on the East Coast is not going to drive ad revenue or viewers no matter how important the game is. Well, maybe a game 7 - but even that's a stretch.

Who's staying up after midnight other than fans of the teams involved and real dedicated followers?

More people than if there wasn't an 18 inning game. Your point is only valid if you think these games deter people from watching more, because they all start in prime time. The difference is only when they finish.

Could someone try to explain to me what is so great about a 6 hour long game with no scoring over the final 9 innings until one of the Dodgers got lucky and connected with wild swing # 107 of the extra innings? How about playing one extra inning where the team that scores in the fewest plate appearances wins?
Because Fox said it was one of the greatest games ever. So it must be true.

They were calling game 5 against Detroit an "instant classic" because it went 13 innings or whatever but i can't even remember who the starting pitchers were or how the runs were scored.

This one will be remembered because Shohei Otani reached base a record nine times, and Freddie Freeman had a second World Series walk off Home run. Those things will stick.

Oh - and a post script. I am reading an article in the Athletic about this series and the impact Vladdy had the following night on taking Ohtani deep. They made an interesting point:

Wasn’t this the most expensive home run in World Series history?

Vladdy’s contract — 14 years, $500 million
Ohtani’s contract — 10 years, $700 million

$1.2 BILLION dollars in just 2 contracts? What the hell?? (ignore the deferred contract element...Ohtnai is still getting $750MM when all is said and done)

But how do you really feel about Bradford?
An even better question is who is the Mariner equivalent of Bradford, although that's an easy one: Dylan Moore.
That is unfair, Dilly has had good games for the M's over the years...has Bradford had a good game for the Seahawks yet?
Dunno, but those last 70-80 ABs or so that Dilly had were probably the worst we've ever seen in franchise history. Even Mario Mendoza never had a stretch like that. Bradford would literally have to false start, hold, fall down, get pancaked, or whiff on over 50% of his blocks to match that...which he might well have done. :D

I felt bad for the guy - he must have been inside his own head and overthinking everything. Literally everything. Towards the end, he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Sure but they don't lose anything. It is all incremental to what they would have had if it was just a 9 inning game. Maybe I am missing something.

I stayed up. I thought it was a fun game to watch. The last thing I am going to do is feel sorry for someone in the Eastern Time Zone. I don't think it makes sense to play a game in LA, and move the time so it doesn't impact those in New York. Games go extra innings, shit happens.
