Adding contact, and doing it cheaply. Off Szn Plan 1.0
Re: Adding contact, and doing it cheaply. Off Szn Plan 1.0
Imagine Naylor, Julio, Cal, Schwarber, Polo, Randy as your MOTO. 200 bombs right there. but no let's bring in Kwan and his .700 OPS. lol

Blue Jays have Barger and Clement as rookies, Red Sox had several. There many teams that go with rookies!Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 7:15 pmWhat sort of a team with WS aspirations accepts mediocrity as a stop gap in favor of hoping that a rookie will be ready?Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 7:12 pmMichael K. wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 4:12 pmWilliamson slashed .253/.294/.310/.604
Geno's last year here, you know, the one where he had to go because he struck out too much? Just so we could bring him back at the deadline?
.232/.323/.391/.714
Yeah, pretty bad. Still better than Ben.
Geno's full season last year?
.228/.298/.526/.824 That's with the late season collapse while here. Not sure what makes anyone believe Ben is going to be even close to the presence at the plate other than just wanting to believe what they are being told by Jerry. Ben hit 1 dinger in 85 games! You want your every day 3rd Baseman to slug .310?
There is clearly a difference between hitting in Arizona and hitting at T-mobile park. Geno's OPS at Chase Field was 1.011. His OPS at T-mobile was .479. I don't see any reason to think that looking at his overall numbers from 2025 is relevant to how he would perform if he was in an M's uniform for a full year. Geno's last year here before they moved on was 3 years ago. He will be 35 next season. Its not reasonable to expect him to even return to that form. He's cooked its time to move on, especially with all the young infielders coming up.
Williamson should have at least incremental improvement with more experience and body maturation. He was on pace for a 2.4 WAR season over 162 games. He will be fine as a stop gap until Emmerson is ready.

This might just be my wishful thinking, but I believe that we will see an Emerson vs Williamson battle for 3rd base during ST.
In order to be considered a contender I think that the M's cannot go into 2026 with essentially 2 rookies as everyday players (Emerson / Williamson and Young).
Polanco almost HAS to be resigned.

Signing Naylor and Polanco alone is going to bring you back up to last years payroll. Do you really think they are going to increase their Payroll by 30 Million to bring in someone like Schwarber?

Again Toronto has Barger, Lukes and Clement all rookies playing major roles in playoffs and starting.Lonnie In Colorado wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:02 pmThis might just be my wishful thinking, but I believe that we will see an Emerson vs Williamson battle for 3rd base during ST.

I am not a big fan of Kwan but he put up 3.7 WAR and is set to make less than 9 M in 2026. I am sure Cleveland who BARELY missed is dying to trade him and I am sure their fans would love it too.

Would I trade Castillo's $24M for Schwarbers $24M though? Yes.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:16 pmSigning Naylor and Polanco alone is going to bring you back up to last years payroll. I have zero expectations that Dipoto will acknowledge Schwarber even exists, of course.

See this was our problem and Schwarber, while helping, would add to the current stupidity. Everyone loves a homerun, BUT YOU CAN'T LIVE ON THE HOME RUN ALONE...YOU NEED PEOPLE ON BASE AHEAD OF THE HOME RUN HITTERS. You have to have balance in the lineup which is why people are interested in getting a Kwan or Donovan because they get on base better than most of our team does.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 11:36 pmWould I trade Castillo's $24M for Schwarbers $24M though? I wouldn't invest a large free agent contract in a DH like Schwarber.
