They were leading 4-3 with 1 out in the 9th. So they were even closer, 2 outs away. If that adds to your joy.
Yes thank you. I misremembered and thought LA tied it in the 8th.

For D-T's sanity and trying to get back to topic - can't see how any neutral would root for the Dodgers.
I'm guessing from the tone there isn't specific rooting FOR the Dodgers, just rooting against Toronto 8-)
I guess you aren't aware of how annoying all the people from British Columbia that pour into Seattle pretending to be Blue Jay fans have been over the years.

I suppose. But instinct says the offside rule dictates the whole tactical structure. Just as in the NFL if the attacking team could run past the line of scrimmage before the snap you would have chaos all over the field, wouldn't you?
I'm not sure that is a good analogy. Soccer isn't broken down into "plays" with a stoppage of action between each built into the game. To me, the soccer offsides is more like not allowing receivers to get behind the defense with the ball in the air.

I admit however i'm not that familiar with soccer rules, and didn't understand what you were saying about "goal hanging" but why couldn't that be addressed with a separate rule?
DT is going to kill us both  . I think you use the term "cherry picker" for a goal hanger. Its just you might end up with about 3, 4 or more players being cherry pickers without offside. We're only guessing but it would probably be a bit dull?

The comparison to the line of scrimmage is that offside IS the rule to control the cherry pickers. The offside/line of scrimmage though is moving for all 90 minutes. Difference though is that the last defensive player controls where that line is (although they tend to work as a line of 3 or 4)

So the skill is where the defence sets their line. Too far forward and its easy to pass, punt or rush through the gaps they leave behind. Too close to the goal and the other team can attack in greater numbers, maybe a blitz?

And back to the baseball  Irritating bastards, then? I recall from the Game Threads - I should have understood it more. You only have to say they are worse than Germans on holiday and I would have instantly got it. ;)

Americans are not huge Canada fans. I have never liked the Dodgers and didn't watch a single pitch but smirked a bit when the BJs blew it while I was watching the highlights.

Good god. We were a fringey commonwealth country, at best, when I was a kid. And I still remember singing “God save the Queen” at the start of every school assembly along with “O’ Canada”.

I smirked because I thought we were asking god to save Freddy Mercury, which made no sense to my 10 year old brain.

Depends on the audience, I guess.

Half the people I know love and admire Canada (and secretly want to live there). The other half hate the Dodgers. Both sentiments dislike franchises, I guess.

But I live in a house full of Giants fans, so take that as you will.

That may have been the best game 7 in WS history.
Have you ever seen the 1960 Game 7? If only they'd had modern coverage back then. They aired it some years back with Bob Costas hosting it with some of the surviving players. Catch it if you can, that game was off the hook.

Yamamoto is a stud. Imagine if the Mariners had been able (or willing) to sign him. Almost would have guaranteed a WS appearance and a likely victory.
No kidding, it's like they're not even trying to sign Japanese players and I wonder if it's because of Ichiro not wanting his legacy to be topped. These guys, especially Ohtani when he first came over, should be practically in our pockets and yet we're never even in the conversation.
That is a BS take Bro. They went all-out for Ohtani and collected the biggest IFA pot. They did the big show, and all along he had his sight set on some relationship with LAA. Mike Trout was in his prime but LAA basically wasted the primes of two 1st ballot guys at once. You could blame Pujols and Rendon or pitching or both
Bro, considering that this is you saying that I'll take that with a grain...no, a silo of salt.

At least there was some satisfaction in how the Bluejays were just 2 outs away and blew it. That has to be a lot more painful than being 8 outs away from getting to the WS and blowing it (thanks Dan). They came into the league the same year as the Mariners and have been to 3 World Series and won two of them. Fuck them, fuck their woke bitch fans, fuck George Springer and fuck Canada.
My oh my, what an envious son of a gun.

The irony of being in Seattle and bashing “woke bitch fans.”

Seattle’s the Woke King.

What’s annoying about Canadian fans coming down to Seattle to root for a Canadian team?

If they like baseball, what do you expect them to do?
