Seven other head coaches were hired in 2024, the year Mike Macdonald was hired but Mike Kafka was not. Here’s the latest:

Antonio Pierce was fired by the Raiders
Jerod Mayo was fired by the Patriots
Brian Callahan was fired by the Titans, the first coaching casualty this season
Dave Canales led the Panthers to a 5-12 record in ‘24, and has brought them finally to 5-5 this season
Jim Harbaugh is fine
Raheem Morris is headed towards a second straight losing record with the Falcons
Dan Quinn’s Commanders have taken a massive step backward, and it’s not only because of Jayden Daniels injuries
Harbuagh and Macdonald are the runaway winners of the ‘24 hirings, and it’s not remotely close after that.

I really wasn't excited about replacing Pete, not because of being a Pete lover but just the odds of finding another decent coach. But they did it, JS did it, he nailed it. Just like looking for a qb, you could be stuck with a decade of mediocrity. Titans fans have to be going nuts

I just read a piece on Kafka in the Athletic that the Seahawks did interview for the head job but then tried to get to be Macdonald's OC, but the Giants refused to let him make a lateral move, and he stayed with the Giants.

Yeah, that could be pretty accurate. In contrast to the article from a few years ago on how they managed to get along. I don't think it ever was about Pete telling JS what to do. I think they were able to reach consensus in the past but that began to fail. This mini rebuild could have been the breaking point. Pete wanted Smith and DK extended. Like I said before, what's interesting to me is the difference in coaching with Pete gone rather than players. But Smith and DK was a pretty big deal

Last week Softy and Dick were talking about Kubiak as a HC and they were saying, in an interview, he just would not have the juice needed to be a HC. Some guys are just better behind the scenes.

I know you are a huge Pete fan, so let me put this delicately. Do you really think that Pete wasn't a big part of the problem when you look at the way this roster looks now as apposed to when he was a part of the decision making process? I was a huge John detractor, but even I admitted that he had done a real good job other than the O Line. It's starting to look like he was right, and they just needed a better scheme. Of course, keeping the two tackles healthy helps a lot.

But once John had full say so? I would think even you would admit that the personnel has improved greatly....no? Coincidence? You say Pete did all of this in the off season in Vegas....how has that worked out? The proof just isn't there to suggest that Pete was outstanding at talent evaluation....not the further he got from being around the college game and knowing all of those guys. He fell in love with veterans and other people's cast offs.
