Idk. I'm underwhelmed.

Running it back is fine I guess, but it doesn't move the needle for me.

This better not be their "big" signing.
Your are getting a full year of Naylor , a bit more then a run back

I am afraid that they just ate up most of their budget. Josh has a good 2 months for the Ms but the rest of his career does not exactly scream 100 million dollar player. Hoping for the best but this really contract really could be an albatross.

They might end up with a bad year or two at the end, but Yandy Diaz will be a year older (34) in 2026 than Naylor will be by the end of a 5 year contract. (29-33 years old).

They just filled a position with a guy that was top 10 in MLB at his position. Seems like a win.

Depends how the contract is structured. If it's back ended it make it a friendlier contact

Its the cost of doing business, that's a baseline contract for fielding a team these days

I think the contract will be fine - he's not a pitcher and most guys aren't done/out of the league by the time they are 32 or 33. 20mill/year for a guy like him is just par for the course these days and will in a few years, seem like a great deal. If the player is good then you are paying them 15-20 mill a year, if the player is great than you are paying 25-35/year - its just the way it is. He proved that he's a gamer and desires to win and goes out and plays like it - especially in the playoffs. A lot of players say they want to win but that's just it - its like a nice-to-have for most players as they don't show up in the playoffs.
Its not enough though to win the WS so as we've said - hopefully this isn't it.

I have gone back and forth all day. I loved the way Josh played down the stretch. But it appears they are paying for the post trade Nails, vs his career norms.

Posy trade he was a .299 .341 .490 .831 138 OPS+ guy on a 27 HR and 57/57 SB pace. He was a 6 WAR pace guy post trade.

The length of the contract is irrelevant. All that matters is the WAR he generates. If he puts up 10 WAR over the next three years the contract is paid for, forget the last two years.

Reportedly in the 5 year $90-100 million range
Good job Mariners. They went public that they wanted him back and then they made it happen early in the off season. Maybe they are learning. I predicted 5 x $90M. Seems I was close. Now sign Okamoto and trade for Donovan.
