He's a Mariner legend and a crazy rise and fall story. I think that's why people are interested.

Ichiro's second contract was not good either. It happens with veteran players. Pujols contract is pretty bad. There are some posters on here that seem to have a particular disdain for Felix. Not sure why. Griffey left, A-Rod left, Randy left... Finally you get a kid that wants to be a Mariner for life and somehow he's enemy #1. In reality, bringing up a Hall of Famer out of your minor league system that ends up playing their whole career for the same team is very rare. Felix is frustrating, because he was on that trajectory but fell off. Edgar is still the only one for the Ms.
Felix deserves a lot of disdain for his unwillingness to change. Every mil player is constantly evolving, Ask any quality pitcher who lost velocity how they were able to continue. They either changed how they pitched or improved accuracy. Felix didn’t do either. He kept trying to use what always worked
He is either lazy or ignorant
He deserves a lot more love than disdain IMO when you line up all the folks that have worn the Ms uni. He underperformed his contract big time, but that's not that uncommon in baseball - no reason to focus on that when you could focus on how electric his great years were. One thing I will always appreciate is that he stayed with the team rather than do what all the other stars had done... Griffey, A-Rod, Randy...
Disagree.

Would have preferred him to move on rather than sign if he was going to spend the whole contract pitching exactly the same even after losing 5mph.

He's either too stupid or stubborn to alter his approach, doesnt matter how good he was 5 years ago.

Showing up with Qtip Jose Lima hair, choosing to wear his hat like a gangsta f***...

Eff that guy. The only thing he ever did for the Mariners was sign a rich extension and then kicked back watching South Park and learning to salsa dance instead of learning how to pitch.

You can say he tried. The evidence suggests otherwise.

And, yes, Griffeys lazy ass and backwards hat can kick rocks too. He never did jackshit for the Mariners besides bail. Twice. Never impressed with his stupid smile and lazy ass. Fact is, Edgar is the only great this team has to its credit.

Griffey was a Red. By choice. Eff him too.

This organization wasn’t in it to win it and they should have gotten great value for him at his prime..........

This is just flat out not true. He altered his approach a ton. He tried to become a finesse pitcher. It just didn't work because he doesn't have the control it requires to be successful as a junk baller.

His control is fine. You want the off speed stuff out of the zone anyway. He's stubborn and stupid because he didn't ever put in the work to strengthen his legs, strengthen his back, strengthen his core in order to keep his FB velo above 91 where it needs to be to make his offspeed arsenal effective. When you throw 88-90, it just doesn't work. It's too hittable. 92+ makes a big diff

I think Felix was comfortable to take the money and run while playing for a low key, low pressure, perennial loser like the Mariners.
In his prime he had good control, but lost his touch once he started to "overthrow" in order to compensate for being worn out / all used up.

It cost him the hall.

Only question is whether he will be one and done or not. Guessing not but definitely no chance at being voted in by the writers.

Do you know this for a fact? I remember several off seasons where the discussion was all about the work he was doing to his body. Some times you just lose the velo thats genetics not necessarily work ethic.

Felix did a ton of conditioning one offseason and came in looking like a new guy, but the results were not good. Meanwhile Bartolo Colon goes double servings of lasagna and getting outs at age 45.

Depends on your criteria. Edgar limped into the Hall and Griffey steamrolled in first ballot wearing a Mariners jersey. I think there are 5:

1. Ken Griffey Jr.
2. Felix Hernandez
3. Edgar Martinez
4. Ichiro Suzuki
5. Randy Johnson
