I love Mark Schlerth, find him both entertaining and informative. I think like many Offensive Lineman he finds blame in everyone else but the player on the O Line sometimes, but what ever. He said something VERY interesting to me about Russ Wilson and his "Brand". He basically said during Russ' first year that he wonders if he realizes that his actions cost people jobs!
Yes, former NFL offensive lineman and analyst Mark Schlereth has been a vocal critic of Russell Wilson, particularly during his time with the Denver Broncos, stating that Wilson's poor play and high cost directly contributed to team failures and job losses within the organization.

Schlereth's criticisms, largely centered around 2023–2024, included the following points:

Costing Jobs: Schlereth argued that the Broncos had to "swallow a historic financial penalty to release him," which was a direct consequence of the team deciding they could not move forward with him, a sentiment linked to the dysfunction that cost people their jobs.

"Garbage" Play & High Cost: Schlereth described Wilson's 2023 performance as "awful" and "55 minutes of dreck," stating that his production did not align with his massive contract, rendering him a liability to the team's success.

"Toxic Positivity": Schlereth has frequently criticized Wilson's upbeat personality, calling it "toxic positivity" that feels disconnected from the reality of poor performances, which he argued was damaging to team culture.
Delusional Leadership: Schlereth accused Wilson of being unable to admit his limitations, labeling him "delusional" for not accepting his decline, which he believed forced the team to move on.

"Radio Gold": When the Broncos finally decided to bench and release Wilson, Schlereth referred to the move as "radio gold," indicating his firm belief that the team was better off without him.
There was another one that I can't seem to find anymore, but I know it was posted on here. It was an NFL Network guy basically saying that Russ and Ciara got out of their Limo and raised there hands asking for no photos or autographs....and no one was asking for them.

He is a giant douche and got exposed. I remember all the shit about Children's Hospital, and that might have been legit, he might have been trying to give back. But there are a lot of rumblings that he made it very well known when he was going to be there for the photo ops. A real good friend of mine from HS showed me his son's baby picture from Children's when they had to take him there. I was like "Dude, I can't see him!" His reply "Look closer....." The guy next to them was Edgar Martinez. He was just there, visiting kids. No fanfare or photos.

Russ was all about his brand and his ego, and he got what he deserved. The bullshit pre game prep he did when he was hurt, so everyone could see him? Doing exercises in the airplane and then telling the media about it? Come on dude.

What did Terry Bradshaw say about Russell Wilson?
"I know that Wilson came over from Denver. If Sean Payton, one of the greatest offensive minds in the NFL, gives up on a guy that's thrown 25 touchdowns and six interceptions after 15 games, I'm telling you that there is something wrong with Wilson that I don't know."

The rumor is Wilson made that effort. He also was constantly trying to be the highest paid player, but would then wonder why no one compares him to Brady. The only thing they had in common was their wives make more money then them, but instead of using that to his advantage, like Brady? Russ was always out for his.

Mr. Unlimited.
He's unlimited, but the teams he plays for aren't!

The big debate when he was going through contract negotiations was "what happens when he loses his legs". Ask Pitt and Denver.

I like the way ESPN host Chris Canty describes Super Bowl 60:

“Russell Wilson took a Super Bowl away from the Seattle Seahawks when they played the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, he’s gonna give one back to them if Seattle wins Super Bowl LX,” Canty said on Unsportsmanlike Radio, per Awful Announcing.

“This team is the house that Russell Wilson built. The Russell Wilson trade, avoiding paying him the $245 million contract, getting multiple first round picks, multiple second round picks that turned into your starting left tackle, your best corner and two key contributors in your defensive front seven. This is the team that Russell Wilson built. This is the championship that Russell Wilson built.”

The Seahawks used those picks to select left tackle Charles Cross (2022 first round), cornerback Devon Witherspoon (2023 first round) and a pair of edge rushers in Boye Mafe (2022 second round) and Derick Hall (2023 second round).

I'll go one further. It got us JSN. I doubt we take a WR at 20 if we hadn't already taken a defensive player at 5. Could say the same for K9 the year before. If they hadn't already taken Mafe, would they have followed Cross up with a RB? We'll never know, but I have a gut feeling they would have gone defense with both those drafts. So we don't get JSN or K9.

Um, he has his own photographers taking the pics - been doing it for years. The problem with 'politics or hollywood' is there is no appetite for him. A washed up back up QB? He's known for flaming out in Denver, in Pitt, in NY - the 'glory' days are long long gone. NO one is hitching thier wagon to him. He's embarrassing, has zero self awareness, the ultimate cringe. Unless he becomes self-depricating Rodney Dangerfield in a Netflix stand up - I see you market value for him. If he has stayed in Seattle and ended his career as a back up there - that's a nice story - leaving there onlt to realize that franchise was the reason you were successful - falling so hard on your face in epic style - that's not a product people have any appetite for.
Sorry, I took the post down, consider it some more, I'm annoying that way. Here it is for continuity.

I don't know, backup QBs don't get photo ops. If all he wanted was attention then I think this be the time he'd try something like the entertainment field or politics. That's why I said we needed to wait and see if he was serious

I haven't seen where he's caused issues, he hasn't been a distraction. He was benched by the giants and took it well far as I know. He was praised for his mentoring of Dart. He may come off as phoney but an actual narcissist isn't going to be capable of that. Im willing to cut him some slack. His teammates these days seem to appreciate him, a veteran leader
“Russ is cool, man,” running back Devin Singletary said. “Always positive energy, always just trying to find ways to get better and bring everyone along with him. It’s not all about him. That’s one of the biggest things. He’s trying to make everybody better.”
He wasn't a distraction in Seattle? He wasn't a distraction in Denver? You're joking, right? He literally sunk the Drnver franchise (still makes me smile tho lol) No one is suggesting he is now - because he doesn't have the leverage, but when he did - he WAS. DOn't misunderstand, I do not think he's a bad guy - he's a guy that got swept in self-absorption - likely fueled by Ciara and his hangers-on, but at the end of the day - he is responsible. Still one of the most dynamic players we ever had - literally up until he started pouting he wasn't being treated like he was Tom Brady, which he wasn't, while endless product shilling and ignoring his on-field duties as the QB of the Seahawks.

HIm and Ciara can't not beg for the spotlight. It's what they do. I truly hope he ends up in Cleveland as I predicted - to complete the downfall - the direct result of an utterly selfish me-first player. NO one with any self respect goes to a back up QB role in Cleveland after 15 years in the league. No one - un less they need the money - or attention. That is the absolute bottom of the barrel.
I wasn't speaking to when he was with the seahawks, I don't get the impression he's been a distraction these days. Nobody is hiring a backup qb that's going to be a distraction. If he really does do it he'd have to be on his best behavior. You want to continue hammering on him go for it. I'm willing to cut a guy a break once in awhile.
