Ironic that Young hit a total of 27 HRs in his entire minor league career and wasn't know as a contact hitter but now he is on his way because of 3 ST HRs and a .190 BA....
He also shaved off his moustachio which is a bad sign.

Colt Emerson, Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan have been the talk of Mariners camp this spring, and rightly so. They’re three of the very best prospects in all of baseball.

As things stand, none of them will make the opening day roster. But the prediction here is all three will play into the Mariners’ October plans in some fashion.

Emerson, 20, ought to be the third baseman by midseason, pushing Donovan to either second base or the outfield (Arozarena to DH, anyone?)
I don't see anything particularly over the top about Emerson there. Sure the optimism is over the top, Jude admits that himself. They are the AL favorites to go to the WS and it's spring training, why not be optimistic? I brought up Julio having a monster season, make it so. This forum was built on being pessimistic, it's just harder to do these days. Being optimistic about the season is not being over the top. The mariners have put together a nice team, heaven forbid they get some credit for it
So Emerson who isn't even hitting in ST against trash minor league pitching is going to be our 3B by midseason moving Donovan to 2B which means their Cole Young idea was a fail OR Donovan will play left and Randy will DH. Where is Refsnyder going to play in that case? They are better than last OD because they had a shitty off season again last off season but that is a pretty low bar.
Could be an injury at some point during the season. Or that the M's could make a trade. Colt could force the M's to call him up and then someone on the 26-man becomes trade bait. Long season, anything can happen. Thats a good problem to have.

Young is curious, can scratch our heads over why the mariners were so interested in keeping him. But why were the Dbacks so interested in getting him? He seems to show some intriguing power possibility.

Honestly, we are back to debating ST stats? Having too many DHs is a bad thing these days? You want to grouse about shitty off seasons when they are favorites to go to the WS after this off season, OK. That's your prerogative. But just because Jude doesn't bring it up in his article doesn't make him a lackey to the mariners
We have zero DH's and about 4 guys that aren't good enough to hold down a position without being platooned that we're calling a DH.
They were in the top ten for WAR production at DH last season weren't they? I don't care how many it takes, what matters is the production

Not with this mix of bums they weren't.

Canzone is fine, still wouldnt call him (or count on him as) a DH.

Refsnyder is like putting Garver in there. Pathetic.

Jorge Polanco was fine, but he was supposed to be our 3B, lol. And, he's gone.

As DH in 2025:

Refsnyder .302 ./399 /.560 /.959 was better than Polanco .305/ .345 /.543/ .888 from the right side last season. I'm not seeing the garver comparison. Since 2022 Refsnyder has slashed .312/.407/.516 right handed

Garver had an .870 OPS in Texas the year before he got to Seattle.

Then, in his two years with Seattle, he had a .627 OPS and a .640 OPS.

And Refsnyder is the same age that Garver is NOW.

The chances of him falling off the Garver cliff are 80%+ imo.

Guess we'll see, but Refsnyder is like Pollock, Garver, and all the pathetic losers Dipoto added before them.

Garver never showed the consistency that Refsnyder has. Age is a factor in projecting production but I think there's more to player comps than just age, we shall see

Refsnyder's so consistent that nobody knew or cared who he was before Dipoto made him half a platoon. At DH no less.

Yeah, we'll see. My money's on a sub-.700 OPS for Refsnyder in 2026.
