I can remember back when they left debating using a new name for an expansion franchise. But that was before all the nostalgia set in. Seriously in my mind, being able to reintroduce it 20 years later is a goldmine marketing opportunity
Your excitement level is odd. Its like you are going to make a dime from the goldmine. I could give a rat's ass. Watching Tyler Perry on day time TV. MFer is a billionaire because he decided to dress up as a grandma. Life is a trip. Sometimes I think I am smart but then I realize I fucked up way too many times Emotion over brains.

This isn't about some old supersonic fans in Seattle, I think that's the disconnect. Nobody gives a shit about them. This is about jersey sales not only around the country but the rest of the world. It's not about going ballistic if you don't do it, it's selling them a jersey if you do. That's why they really need to go full bore retro, like the sonics stepped out of a time capsule. I had pictures of jeepneys here with the sonic logo. It be like being able to grab the Coca-Cola logo and sticking it on your product. That's what you are speculating about if you're bidding on the franchise, what's that logo worth
Absolutely spot on. Tourists (like me :D ) wont leave Seattle without buying Sonics guff and tat and its a absolute dream for marketeers.

And the NBA is so popular with the kids that there will be no shortage of them wanting to go to the games. There will be no caring about what happened to the first incarnation, the re-incarnation will be a licence to print money.

yeah, don't understand what you're getting at. I'm saying the name derived as a tribute to the local jet industry conceived by the Boeing company. Seems antiquated to me these days particularly since Boeing left town, nothing to do with dates

They also had dropped the super, they had become more the sonics didn't they? Would they be the Supersonics or the Sonics?
Ok I get it now. It is NOW antiquated but if you change the name fans of the other team will go ballistic.

It's no different than following the stock market or business news. Commerce can be interesting particularly being sports connected. I see it as a pretty unique situation. An expansion team with a ready made heritage to step into. I'll be curious how they play it. And there's going to be the Vegas franchise to compare.

So they are going to be bid on individually but the impression seems to be their value be about the same.
Quite a price tag. The Lakers sold at a $10 billion valuation as the most expensive team in NBA history; shortly before that the Celtics sold at a $6.1 billion valuation. So it’s not hard to see where the league came up with these numbers. It isn’t an exact comparison given there’s so much that goes into buying a brand-new team as opposed to purchasing an existing organization but there was never a doubt it would cost billions for a new party to buy their way into the NBA.

That's the thing, the supersonics assuming they would see value in it are kind of a hybrid. They wouldn't be exactly brand new.

I remember watching the initial Sonics while attending the UDUB. Rule, Meschery, Hazzard, etc. I also remembering running in to them at the old Checkmate Tavern on Westlake I believe (60's) . It was one of their post game hang outs.
For me it was in 1976 when I was nine. At my first game my buddy and I ran down to the concourse at halftime and watched the team walk by. We were at ground level and those guys were giants. Not so much Slick Watts and Freddie Brown, but Tom Burleson holy cow.

The game is so much different now from where we left off. Teams are shooting threes sometimes more than half the time, and players are so good at it that the game has suffered. It's just not fun to watch and it's never coming back, ever.
Analytics are bringing the post game back. The 3-ball peaked.

He's pretty exciting. I don't normally watch the NBA, but when I do, I prefer Anthony Edwards. He's like watching Jordan.
