What's funny is the Mariners as a team had a higher OPS in the first half of 2025 (.743) than they did the second half (.736)

And is it the offense? Offense is going to suck at times but what's supposed to carry a team is consistent defense. The mariners have lost three consecutive one run games where they have had defensive lapses. That's the value of defense isn't it, winning these sorts of games? Every team is going to go through cold periods, the teams that really separate themselves as being great I think do it by pulling off victories on the strength of their defense. The mariners so far aren't doing that. They are going to win their 90 games but really is it whats going to keep them from winning 100? Letting wins slip away because you can't catch or throw the ball

It's not a failure to add , it's Julio, Naylor, Raleigh and whoever not producing. You don't add in order to overcome a lineup that sucks. He added last season to augment a lineup that was actually producing.
Julio never hits this time of year. Naylor has been traded around the league for a reason. He cashed in on a good seven or so week stretch with us last season. Anyone that thought Cal would again be the same as last year? Is a fucking idiot.

They will come around and dipoto will probably look for additions. But if they don't then don't bother. There's really no point trying to add to a lineup at the deadline that sucks. You really aren't going to move the needle
The lineup sucked last year at the deadline.

They added Donovan who's been hitting, Young is basically an addition thats been hitting. Its going to come down to Cal hitting, Julio hitting, Naylor hitting. I don't see anyway to get around that.

Cal was the Catcher last year. Odds of him having a better year are as close to zero as you can get.
Naylor was the 1st Baseman last year. Odds of him out pacing last year are very VERY slim.
Young is off to a good start, but the odds of him being more productive at the plate than Polanco are pretty low.
Donovan is most likely an upgrade over Geno, but with less power.
JP sucks and the OF is the same.
DH sucks.

So, they had to know going in that they were going to have less offensive production. Much like last year they should have known the Pitching couldn't continue to be healthy and that productive. But? Just like last year...they entered the season with an inferior product.

They HAD to know going in that Julio would sleep until the All Star break. And all they did was add a 3rd Baseman to bat at the top of the order. Acting as though this type of a start is a fucking surprise is stupid, and earning the kind of money this Front Office does to continually assemble this type of an offense at the beginning of every damn season is inexcusable.

Back it all you want Donn, Dipoto is a fucking dunce.

This is the right take. The offense largely depends on these three players producing at the plate.

I think you and Donn are both right in your own ways.

Regardless of any moves Dipoto/Hollander made, the guys we already had needed to play well.

And at the same time Dipoto/Hollander are mediocre-at-best executives who didn't improve the few- but very important- vacancies we had enough to put us over the top without great seasons from the core.

I wanted them to add Marte but if they had and removed Young they are off to an even worse start

Lol. No, I don't think the defense is winning us anything.

The pitching or offense will win and lose our games.

Defense, lol. Pfft.

This loss is on Raley. WTF with stopping at first on an easy double?
