Except it's apples and oranges, we don't need a second baseman and he wasn't signing with the mariners to DH

We did need one.

And now the kid they're using instead has a sub-.700 OPS.

At least he can play good defense though! Lol.
Then the Arraez comparison would be to Young
Arraez could have taken Refsnyder's roster spot.

I really couldn't care less about Young. He can be the utility guy for all I care. The waterboy. Or maybe the minor leaguer he should still be anyways...

But either way, he'd be in our system still. Refsnyder and his hollow bat would've never been here.

Arraez wanted to play second base. He wasn't taking a job as a DH

Which, as you know, I would have happily offered him.

A bat is way more important than a glove at 2B, imo. Or, anywhere, really.

Munoz just isn’t elite anymore. Closers sure do have a shorter shelf life

If they were going to put Donovan at 3B anyways, Arraez would have only cost $6M more this season than Refsnyder (who we never ever ever needed at DH).

But, hey, Cole Young!

This excerpt from our previous conversation. Now Arraez has an OBP almost as high as Refsnyder's OPS.

If you want to replace Young with Arráez okay. He's having a great season, good for him to hold out for a 2nd base job. He's working with Ron Washington there, it's supposed to have made a difference. But that would be spending $12 mil for the same amount of WAR Young supplies for $800,000. And I don't understand what it's got to do with Refsnyder and the DH.

What I see is a team getting murdered by left handed pitching. Refsnyder has been a disaster but that doesn't change the problem they are facing. They need a right handed bat with some real pop. Go ahead and bat Raley against lefties. I doubt he's going to rake. There's probably not much that can be done about it at this point. But a team this inept against left handed pitching I doubt is going far

Yes, I did/do want that.

They have Julio, Cal, and Randy from the right side with power.

What we need is hits and people on base instead of losers getting out time after time.

Cole Young has a .665 OPS now that the league's seen him a little.

Defense isn't getting us anywhere because you have to outscore the other team.

Well If they want to outscrore the other team I think they need to hit better than .188/ 277/ 312 against lefties.

Arraez has even splits, too bad the Giants can't take advantage of his season

Left handed pitchers have become dominant lately
Ahead of the MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta last month, Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal looked around the clubhouse and noticed something strange.

“There were a ton of lefties,” Skubal said.

Lefties tend to spot any lefties in their orbit, and so Garrett Crochet, the Boston Red Sox lefty dueling Skubal for a Cy Young award, saw it too. At this year’s Midsummer Classic, the left-handed starters outnumbered the righties. “That’s crazy,” Crochet said. Other worthy lefties were snubbed, he added, such as Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez.

Now the rest of the industry is noticing: We may be witnessing a zenith of left-handed pitching. In 2025, lefties have a collective 3.73 ERA. Righties? 4.30. It’s the greatest gulf between them since ERA became an official stat in 1913.

Despite comprising only a quarter of the major league pitching population, left-handers account for five of the top seven qualified starters by ERA, and 11 of the top 23. By adjusted ERA, this is the most dominant left-handed season in the modern era

Well Brennen Davis is hitting LHPs to the tune of .361/1.194 so seems he should be able to top Ref's .109/.381 or Joe's .150/.642 but they refuse to even give him a chance. I know why they keep running Ref out there but why Joe instead of Davis. They are both making minimum wage. Complete dysfunction...

If we are adding FAs, I think I'm adding Kyle
Schwarber. Check out those splits, against lefties. 960, righties .993
