Yeah, the SS throw is longer from the hole than 3rd base. But that's not really the issue is it? Those aren't the throws JP is missing, though he probably would. It probably doesn't hurt to move JP to 3rd but I don't see it really helping much. We shall see once he gets there.

Agree totally. Still laughing about JP saying that is how he is going to ensure that he will finish is career as Mariner. Imagine him playing 3B in 2033 at 38 yo. lol He would need to hit a ball in the gap to get a single and would need to play 1B in order to get throw the ball to 1st on the fly.XpertDBA wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2026 8:59 pmOk, I was wrong about the length of the throw. But doesn't the 3rd baseman have a more awkward body angle and frequently throwing while charging or barehanding balls? I don't see that as being a strength of JPs.D-train wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2026 6:22 pmNo idea where it came from but that is a common misconception. SSs play WAY deeper than 3Bs so have longer throws on average:
But yeah I don't see JP playing 3B helping him much other than it requires less range. While both positions demand strong arms across a regulation 90-foot diamond, a shortstop's throw to first base averages roughly 85 to 130 feet. When fielding "in the hole" (deep toward the third-base line), shortstops are often throwing from the edge of the outfield grass, making it the longest, most challenging throw in the infield.

Without an arm, JP is cooked. Guys who could pinch hit like him used to have a place, like Smokey Burgess or Manny Mota, but those days are gone, much as I'd like to see that kind of heroism.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2026 9:13 pmYeah, the SS throw is longer from the hole than 3rd base. I am totally embarrassed to be a Mariner fan....
The way Dan had to hold Castillo's hand because he was getting pulled...what a fucking joke.
We need a real manager. Imagine what Lou would have done if a pitcher had thrown that tantrum. He would have called them out and made a public display of the incident to teach the player that THE MANAGER IS IN CHARGE.

Ty Cobb famously stated that baseball was a "red-blooded sport for red-blooded men" and warned that "mollycoddles had better stay out." In this context, mollycoddle refers to individuals who are pampered, effeminate, or treated with excessive indulgence. Cobb used the term to emphasize that the game required aggression, rivalry, self-reliance, and a struggle for supremacy, viewing it as a survival of the fittest contest rather than a gentle pastime.

First, welcome to the board. You have certainly made an impression on me with your above post.Peepaw wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2026 10:13 pmOn Ty Cobb:Walla Walla Dawg II wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2026 10:00 pmI am totally embarrassed to be a Mariner fan....

Second, good history lesson. I am actually pissed off that Dan had to treat him (or any player) like that.
Boo on Dan, and boo on the entire organization for allowing it. I can't think of any other great manager from the past that would have accepted Castillo's actions.
You know, get pissed and throw your mid because you sucked that day, fine. But to throw a tantrum because you are getting pulled, when you knew it was going to happen...... that's pretty low-brow you little piece of shit (Castillo). If I remember the last time that they did this Miller started and had a good game going until Castillo came in and fucked the whole thing up (if I don't remember that right, please correct me).
