She can start with rental cars. Cars are averaging about $140 a day coming out of SEA-TAC this summer.

How fucking ridiculous. I'm sure glad I don't live in Washington any longer, although Colorado is slowly turning into another Liberal hell hole.
Where did you get that number? I'm seeing a lot less on Enterprise and Alamo web sites (maybe like 400 weekly with all fees for a mid size SUV, but less if you want to go for a smaller vehicle).

But ... how much does the price of rental cars at Sea-Tac have to do with the Seattle mayor? The airport and rental cars are under the control of the Port, aren't they? And the airport isn't even in Seattle.

And as a Seattle resident, I don't rent cars at the airport, so it's not a big deal. I had visitors two weeks ago and instead of renting a car they took the light rail for $3 each to where I met them.

I didn't vote for our mayor and I've got lots of criticisms of her, but this one is pretty far down the list.
You made your visitors take public transportation instead of picking them up at the AP??? lol

I told them I needed my next paycheck to be able to afford that much gas. They understood. lol

No actually, they wanted to take light rail. I couldn't tempt them with the prospect of an hour in traffic on I-5 north.

Yeah, I'm thinking that the Mayor has even less control over rental car prices than the President has over gas and groceries.

Not sure about the comparison. I thought that the general consensus what that inflation under President Biden was in fact his fault.

So apparently the Mayor was against having cameras around Lumen Field before the World Cup and the city council, made up of Democrats, told her that she's a blithering idiot and she changed her tune.

Yeah, glad she changed her mind. The cameras are already there, from what I have read. She didn't want them turned on, but she now says that she has been convinced of "credible threats". After the World Cup, she wants to turn them off again.

I tend to think they are a good idea, in general, for law enforcement.

I'm just baffled as to why she would do something like that in the first place. If there was going to be some sort of terrorist attack (and chances of that even happening are slim, I know), they're not going to start planning it two days before the first match.

And really, whose privacy is being disrupted? Some hobo picking his nose?

The tech is not inherently bad. Technology is like weapons, it can be used for good or bad. Surveillance is great for actually stopping crime before it happens. But, you want the tech in the hands of the good guys, not in the hands of "government".
