Sorri if maybe I missed this part, but are all of us getting a last 6th golfer like we did last time?

No idea wtf you are talking about. Moston you need to simplify this shit or I am out. There is no money involved. Would rather waste my time building a fucking time machine to go back and do Marilyn Monroe from behind.

I mean I loved it when you can up with the automated leaderboard but holy FUCK I feel like I need a PHD in Golf analysis to participate. EVERY Fucking tourney is different rules and have to read through a 1588 word post to analyze wtf I am supposed to do. I don't know 79% of the crackers that I am supposed pick. LESS is MORE!

Rules are simpler this time. Pick one from each column. No golfer can be picked again after being chosen.
Previous contests were almost a free-for-all, a little more mysterious. What a wonderful labor of love and teamwork the bloke from England has given us.
Moston has undertaken the monumental task of putting this together. I appreciate his dedicated efforts.
Mike has taken into consideration ideas and complaints and accommodated within his programs and reasonable time constraints.

We took turns according to how we finished the last contest.

So far, this Open Golf Draft has been smoother than the last and it's ahead of schedule. Kinks have been overcome.
Most of us don't know 79% of the duffers. I just went to ESPN.com - Golf - Rankings. That gave me the current top 200 in the world

For the fun of it, I looked up a few names not on the list, like Will Zalatoris, a name familiar to us all, I think. His rank of 423rd shocked me. Maybe he'll win or place. I'm cheering for him. Good choice, D-T.

I agree simpler is better. I don't think doing Marilyn Monroe's old, dried up bones from behind would give you any pleasure or relief. Joe DiMaggio has probably been there already and his baseball boned 56-game hitting streak brings us full, dimpled circle back to baseball.
Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

If picking 5 golfers, 1 from each section needs a PhD then PhD's are being handed out to every Tom, Dick & Harry. :lol:

If you remove the winners list - the original post is 361 words. :lol:

Mostonmike's Contest Theory

Post by mostonmike » Tue Jul 14, 2026 7:19 am

And so for the theory and reasoning—

1. The Masters Original: It all started there—good fun. Problem was, half the forum ended up picking the exact same player. These days everyone would have Scottie Scheffler if we kept that the same and forty people would win.
2. The Time Zone Nightmare: Doing manual substitutions is a massive pain in the arse. We only keep that for the Masters. It’s worse for this tournament because the time zone differences mean you bunch are fast asleep when the first group tees off. If your guy gets the stomach flu at 6:30 AM in England, you can’t swap him.
3. The 5 vs 6 Math: Through trial and error, we've landed on a sweet spot. If everyone drafts 6 players, most teams drag at least 3 survivors through to the weekend. The one time we only picked 5, only 2 protagonists got through.
4. Engineering the Draft: People love having unique players that belong only to them. But you have to do something to create the situation. I didn't think picking from each column was particularly difficult.
5. The Mystery 6th Man: Finally, the random allocation of the 6th player. Even with a draft, absolute quality gets left on the shelf because people tunnel-vision on the top names. Giving everyone a random 6th player boosts your odds of keeping 3 guys alive. Just look at four of the contenders still sitting unselected:

* Viktor Hovland
* Bryson DeChambeau
* Jordan Spieth
* J.T. Poston
Let's get them into the contest, eh?

All you have to do is pick 1 from each column. Yes, nobody is going to know 79% of the names on the list. I even tried to split them into US and European groups because this course is a savage. If we aren't careful, we are going to see some of your favourite Americans stranded in the long grass for two straight days.

I like it and so do the protagonists. Look, even with a reduced field of posters these days - 11 have entered this one. And I kept this to exactly 361 words so nobody needs a PhD to understand.

6th Player Allocations

Indeed and AS IT STANDS - unless a random late entry comes in this will be the allocation

Walla Walla Dawg II - Viktor Hovland
desbcoach - Bryson DeChambeau
Sibelius Hindemith - Jordan Spieth
rockycola - J.T. Poston
D-Train - Bud Cauley
mostonmike - Alex Smalley
baller - Sam Stevens
maoling - Marco Penge
Xpert DBA - Hideki Matsuyama
TLO Idaho - Alex Fitzpatrick
Bil522 - Akshay Bhatia

Because of the time zone issue I will need a standby list of reserve players in case there are any late drop-outs or even errors I've not spotted yet. You will all be in bed so I have come up with this
reserve 1 Kurt Kitayama
reserve 2 Rickie Fowler
reserve 3 Maverick McNealy

Play starts at 6:30am BST on Thursday (10:30pm PDT - Wednesday your time)

Thanks for doing all this legwork for the tournament. MM, Please know that I certainly appreciate it..... and I don't have a fucking PhD.

What a 6th man I received!!
I would never pick VH on my own, but he is a great golfer.

Peace!
