I'm not sure what the point here is. 6 of the 10 names are fringe AAAA players and Garver is a backup catcher and is fine in that role, and Donovan's been good, but injuries happen.

And so yeah, it would be nice Naylor was better and Refsnyder had produced like they had hoped.

Where's the big reveal? The insight?

Another $30M flushed on negative WAR. Seems like a waste of money even for a billionaire like me....Now over $100M wasted on fringe players since 2022...

The tweet was just this year's players and the majority of the names were minor league call up guys making the minimum.

But those guys are on the roster getting playing time so. Just focus on the actual guys making real money. That might help see the point...

Worst part is Donovan might miss the rest of the season and Naylor's salary is going to escalate significantly...

Yeah, I'm just talking overall roster.

Refsnyder - $6M
Garver - $2.25M
Naylor - $11M (1 year would have probably been a fine risk. 5 was insane, and he goes from $11M to $18M, so the real questionable years are still to come)

Which leads us to guys like Luis Castillo ($24M who I've been begging them to trade for two years)

And JP Crawford who was a blah contract extension from the beginning. Probably earned it in terms of WAR. Still, even a guy like Colt Emerson isnt much of a dropoff if at all.

I'd say they wasted at least $30M this season in terms of new signings, and guys they should have traded by now.

And that's before paying more now for guys like Julio and Emerson for the right to sign them long term, giving up their cheap years of control for more control later. Guess we'll see if we even want that control when the time comes...

Doesn't even get into guys like Robles ($5M) or Munoz ($7M) because at least there's a case to be made for their contracts imo.

I'll be the first to say there are fewer problems on this roster than most years. Goodish job Dipoto, I guess. The issue is the problems with the roster are exactly what we knew they were going to be because they were so obvious.

And for the eleventh year in a row, Dipoto was incapable of filling them.

Same guy that let Nelson Cruz walk for like $8M so he could rotate guys at DH. Has zero clue how to build a hitting roster.

If Hitler, Stalin and Jerry were sitting in a room and I had a gun with only 2 bullets I would deliver two head shots to Jerry and pay for Hitler's and Stalin's drinks.

This is from a few years ago, but I doubt things have gotten better
2016:
Aoki $5.5M
Lind $8M
Miley $6M
Seth Smith $6.75M
Iannetta $4.25M
Cishek $4M
Benoit $8M
TOTAL: $42.5M
As % of Payroll: 29.86%
Total WAR: 3.0
$/WAR: $14.17M

2017:
Gallardo $9M
Smyly $6.85M
Cishek $6M
Valencia $5.5M
Rzepczynski $5.5M
Ruiz $4.5M
TOTAL: $37.35M
As % of Payroll: 24.2%
Total WAR: -0.3
$/WAR: error

2018:
Gordon $10.8M
Nicasio $7.75M
David Phelps $5.5M
Rzepczynski $5.5M
TOTAL: $29.6M
As % of Payroll: 18.75%
Total WAR: 0.5
$/WAR: $59.2M

2019:
Gordon $13.3M
Kikuchi $9.5M
TOTAL: $22.8M
As % of Payroll: 15.56%
Total WAR: 0.7
$/WAR: $32.57M

2020:
Kikuchi $16M
Gordon $13.74M
Mallex Smith $2.35M
TOTAL: $32M
Short season

2021:
Kikuchi $16.5M
Paxton $8.5M
Montero $2.25M
TOTAL: $27.25M
As % of Payroll: 37.12%
Total WAR: 1.4
$/WAR: $19.46M

2022:
Frazier $8M
Winker $6.75M
Giles $5.25M
Romo $2M
White $1.4M
TOTAL: $23.4M
As % of Payroll: 22.52%
Total WAR: 0.9
$/WAR: $26M

From this group of players, over 6 years (covid pass for 2020), these players accumulated 6.2 WAR for a cost of $182.9M, good for a $/WAR cost of $29.5M

In a market where they estimate one WAR is worth ~$8M on the free agent market, Dipoto paid $29.5M/WAR for these bums.

And got a promotion.
