The biggest problem with Naylor is that unless you think he's likely to bring back the SLG part of his game now that he's a long term Mariner (I don't), he's pretty much hitting like he has most years.
Most years? He was a rookie in '19, Covid year in '20, and injured in '21.

From '22-'25 he was about a 125 OPS+ hitter.
Yeah, most years. If you want to believe Naylor's going back to a .450 SLG%, meh, fine. But I'm not jumping on that wagon.

The whole reason the signing seemed fine was because he was quite young for a FA. So much for that. Implodes in year 1 at age 28....Just turned 29 a month ago.

I don't know that I think he will either.

But he's hit above a .450 slug "most years."

He played like 180 games from '19-'21.

He's played around 550 games where that slug has sat at .450...

At the time they cut france his numbers were absolutely comparable to Naylors numbers at the time they signed him.
The M's cut France in 2024. In the 3 seasons prior (21-23) he put up 8.0 WAR
The M's signed Naylor in 2026 in the 3 seasons prior(23-25) he put up 6.8 WAR
From 2023 -2025 France put up 1.3 WAR
From 2023 -2025 Naylor put up 6.8 WAR

Somebody do a welfare check on Cap and see if there's an open pod in his toolshed. I think the Body Snatchers might have duplicated him and only retained 99% of his knowledge. Someone walked in on them just before they could download the first basemen part. ax4ks1.jpg Fun fact: I saw this movie when I was a kid, then opened my bedroom door in the dark and my brother jumped out and Sutherlanded me. Total chocolate turtlehead moment. 😳💩
I am talking about the M's decision making. they didn't cut him in 2026 they cut him in 2024.
At the time they cut him his previous 3 seasons were better than Naylor's Previous 3 Seasons at the time they gave him a 5 year contract.

He hasn't been the statistical equivalent to Naylor for years. You can't just spout that nonsense.

From '23-'25 Naylor was the FAR superior player.

The fact that you don't get that is astounding.
At the time they cut france his numbers were absolutely comparable to Naylors numbers at the time they signed him.

The M's signed Naylor in 2026 in the 3 seasons prior(23-25) he put up 6.8 WAR
Do you know what the one glaring difference is?

France was trending well down and Naylor was trending well up. France had put up 0.7 bWAR in 230 games in '23 and '24 for the M's. Naylor had had put up 6.8 bWAR between '23-'25 before the M's signed him.

I really don't want to be disrespectful but like... are you trolling me and others here right now?
So you are a proponent of making decisions based on recency bias.
Got it. The decision made zero sense at the time. He was struggling by his standards no doubt but he was still within spitting distance of League average. They replaced him with Tyler Frickin Locklear who put up an OPS+ of 56 and then the following Season they Started the year with a Platoon of Rowdy Tellez and Donovan Solano.

I think we can all agree to agree on one thing. There is one smart person in the entire org running things and his name is Scott Hunter. The rest are fucking idiots.

Two smart guys arguing about who is better between the fat Racoon in short pants and a guy named after a cub scout exercise and a pussy country. This is where we are as a fan base because of Jerry and John.

I hate Jerry Dipoto, don't ever get that twisted. He is an egotistical jack ass that only pretends to care about winning. But this organization allows for that, so it really doesn't matter. Could Jerry have added better players this off season? I've hammered away at that. That said, if Julio, Cal and Naylor didn't suck balls and if our big FA addition wasn't made of glass, would it really matter? Those guys get way to much leash, and I'm tired of it. Cal talks like some kind of leader and is a fucking train wreck at the plate. Julio doesn't even pretend to care, and his performance reflects it. Naylor got paid and is now done, and fuck that turd from St Louis. Should have known they wouldn't let him walk if he was anything more than a check casher that can't stay on the field.

Another thing I think is over looked. My son is going on 23. In his lifetime, the Mariners have never made the playoffs without Geno on the roster. I completely admit that I no longer watch this group of over paid jackoffs, but when I did? They honestly look like they don't give a shit. The two times we have made the playoffs in the past nearly three decades....it didn't look like that. Most everyone in here wanted Geno gone, I honestly wasn't one of them....but I fully admit I thought we were better off once we added Donovan. Seems that might not be the case.

This group doesn't care, so I try my damndest not to care either. But they sure piss me the fuck off.

What's my point? Does anyone actually believe there is a player or two out there that is going to get this group of deadweight son's a bitches to the playoffs? Do we really want to watch this group of fuckers in the post season? I probably won't watch another game all year, so I guess my opinion doesn't matter, but my God, who gets an OUNCE of enjoyment out of this team?
