And they might nix it going forward but not retroactively...They can't take a draft pick away from us. That would be absurd.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 4:48 amThat's exactly why you offer it.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 4:37 amI doubt they would offer the QO but they might. It's hard to imagine a player having Randy's year accepting it. But the other consideration is the lockout and the new CBA, which may nix the QO system altogether.
But I'm with you that the QO is probably preferable. Two month rentals tend to not get that much at the deadline.
He's a Boras client, ofc he won't take the QO... you have to offer it to get the draft pick.

They were too stupid to do it with Teo but Randy is having a much better season. He can get a long term deal in FA. Boras would NEVER let him accept and he wouldn't want to either.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 7:54 amI'm aware of how the system works. I just question if the Mariners would take the chance of having to pay a high salary like that.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 4:48 amThat's exactly why you offer it.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 4:37 am

Because they are ridiculously risk averse dumb little bitches. Not giving Teo one was stupid, not giving Randy on would be criminal corporate negligence.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 8:55 amI don't know if it's a question of risk but the mariners have shown a lack of interest in using the qualifying offer on a player they aren't interested in keeping. Case in point Teo Hernandez. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't qualify him

If they do it because they think he will accept it and they get to have him for another season they are even dumber than I thought...Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 5:40 pmOkay, and they could be happy to have him back. I think that's what it turns on rather than working it for a draft pick

You need one more coming to us. That is net negative 1.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 11:15 pmBy tomorrow night, I very much hope these players are not on the Mariners:
Weston Wilson
Leo Rivas
Victor Robles
Michael Rucker
Donovan should be back.
The M's should have traded for a right-handed outfielder.
The M's should have traded for a bullpen arm.
These have got to be some of the most aggressive left/right splits of all time. Can anyone name the player?

I agree with you, but neither of us are the ones making the decision, and this is an organization that is very risk averse.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 12:44 amThey were too stupid to do it with Teo but Randy is having a much better season. There is risk averse as into not wanting any of your retirement funds in the stock market and there is being idiotic as in keeping all of your funds in your mattress. Not given Randy a QO would be the latter...GL_Storm wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 12:54 amI agree with you, but neither of us are the ones making the decision, and this is an organization that is very risk averse.

Aaron Judge vs lefties, Rob Refsnyder vs righties.
