And, please don't give me the Will Smith "put my wife's name in your mouth" line. It was a simple retort to your comment about DiPoto being my relative and stemmed from you unnecessarily trying to belittle my arguments. Obviously I don't think that's the reason why you're so bothered by DiPoto just like it's obvious that he's not my relative. I apologize if that was offensive to you, that was not my intention whatsoever. It wasn't supposed to be a personal attack at all, and I was shocked that you took it that way.

And Daniel, if its any help to add some constructive feedback. its a common theme from your posts that you undo your obvious intelligence by having a dig at the person who you are debating with.

Your points should stand alone without any need to have any sort of dig at the person.

Here is a "for instance".

If this was your post you would end it with something like, "whats the matter with you, did the girl who you were stalking in debate class go off with your brother or something??? "

Far too often you hijack your own opinion and DT's response was probably just being exhausted by the number of times you will have done it to him or others. Death by a thousand posts, perhaps?

Take out that kind of nonsense and people might take your points more seriously.
That's not factual, sir. Also, if my intelligence is obvious, then how has it been undone? Either it's obvious or it's not. Even if I was calling everyone an idiot, which I'm not, whether you take a point seriously should depend on the point being made, right?

"Is Jerry Dipoto your relative?" was not something I interjected into the discussion. To be fair, I thought it was funny, and I thought my response was funny, and in no way, shape, or form was I trying to make a personal attack on anyone. I was just playing along with the idea that I have some personal reason to support Jerry Dipoto.

Back to the topic of Jerry Dipoto, my position is that he's not inept. I don't think it's a situation where replacing him with someone else would undoubtedly result in much better performance by the Mariners. My reasoning for this is as follows.

1) The Mariners farm system was ranked #28 when Jerry took over.

2) I don't think Jerry operates that much differently than other GMs.

3) They had good runs in 2022 and 2025.

4) If all 30 MLB general managers were geniuses, then none of them would have any advantage over anyone else. It's all relative. So, the expectation that hiring a new GM for the Mariners will lead to far better results is based not only on the idea that Jerry sucks, but also that many other GMS suck as well, and it will be easy to hire a new one that doesn't suck.

So, it's not that I am some massive Jerry Dipoto fan. I just don't think he's some bumbling idiot and there's some super obvious candidate the Mariners can replace him with that will lead to massive improvement under their current payroll. I don't really care whether they keep Jerry or replace him. I'm fine either way, and it won't really change my expectations for the team either way.

The main differentiators I see when it comes to teams with low to mid level payrolls are a) that they know when to "rebuild" and b) how well the prospects pan out after the rebuild, which is a combination of statistical analysis, scouting, and player development. I'm fine with putting some of that on the GM if the results are below average, but I'm not sure how below average the results have been for the Mariners in that regard. They've had some pretty good players come up through the system, especially pitchers. Furthermore, some of it is pure luck.

I am being deliberately patronising now, Daniel.

Paragraphs 1 & 2 remain an Achilles heel—where you just have to have the last word on semantics that don't matter. It's boring and it's a shame.

Paragraphs 3 onwards are beautifully constructed and make your case really clear.

The problem is, some people simply can't be arsed wading through the first two paragraphs of defensive waffle to get to the good stuff. It's tedious and that's what I was trying to constructively suggest.

Replying to this post will literally prove my point. Accepting that I actually enjoy reading your baseball takes and just moving on would be the better play. I learn from everyone on here - as long as I can be arsed ignoring your lastworditis, which ironically I am also trying to play.......

At least now the run differential stat that some people place so much importance on is more commiserate with this team's performance this year.

Why couldn't they have used Rucker to close out the game yesterday, isn't that the type of situation he is made for? Perhaps Dan wanted to be sure that he'd be available today to put a close game out of reach.

I just checked the score and I feel like I should have something clever and sarcastic to say, but I'm all out of that today.
Uhhhhhh, impressive that we ripped 2 doubles and 3 singles and only committed 1 error?

Doesn't that excite you just thinking about next year?
Try 4 errors.
How do you score Julio's throwing of the baseball into the stands with only 2 outs? an error?

Since you can only score a play a hit, walk, fielders choice or an error, and there is no category for dipshit? Yeah, an error.
