Re: Jude on the Naylor situation
The mariners aren't the Rockies or the Angels, but they aren't the Braves or the Brewers either. They're somewhere in between. He can say what he wants but like i said before, I think the goal is more like being over. 500 for a decade. It really is kind of interesting how mediocre baseball generally is. Play 162 games and being ten games over. 500 is an accomplishment
Re: Jude on the Naylor situation
It doesn't matter if it's for a season or a decade. The point is he's never going for it he's never trying to win 60% of his games which would guarantee you a playoff spot. That's the sustainability. He thinks if he goes for 60%, he's bound to eventually have a terrible year or two or three. And that ruins the sustainability algorithm.

Re: Jude on the Naylor situation
The irony is that with his strategy which he thought was so brilliant they only won 46% this season and failed miserably at his stated goal of sustainability.

Re: Jude on the Naylor situation
Is firing your entire coaching staff a part of the sustainability model???

Re: Jude on the Naylor situation
It doesn't seem like those coaches were able to do anything for Julio though. I know he has his own hitting coach, the same guy that a lot of the big name Latin players use. I wonder if that's helpful or not.

What do you think?
OPS
2022 .853
2023 .818
2024 .734
2025 .798
2026 .708

The comment wasn't about trying to win a certain percentage of their games.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Oct 05, 2026 11:40 pmIt doesn't matter if it's for a season or a decade. one year, you’re going to win 60 percent, another year you’re going to win 50 percent. It’s whatever it is.
Re: Jude on the Naylor situation
Here is a good example of Sustainability and 54% vs. taking a risk and going for it that had nothing to do with money.
Signed Naylor to 5 x 18.5M vs. Murakami for 2 x $17M
Going to pay Naylor almost 3x more but thought he was the safer bet because he had MLB success albeit with a low ceiling.
2026 WAR
Murakami 2.3
Naylor -0.2
