It doesn't matter if it's for a season or a decade. The point is he's never going for it he's never trying to win 60% of his games which would guarantee you a playoff spot. That's the sustainability. He thinks if he goes for 60%, he's bound to eventually have a terrible year or two or three. And that ruins the sustainability algorithm.
The comment wasn't about trying to win a certain percentage of their games.
one year, you’re going to win 60 percent, another year you’re going to win 50 percent. It’s whatever it is.
So they aren't trying to win EXACTLY 54% of their games each season??? No shit.

So wtf are they trying to do exactly???

If sometimes he expects them to win 60% and sometimes 50% then the goal is OBVIOUSLY the mid point of those two numbers and lo and behold its 54%.

It's got nothing to do with trying to do anything! That's the point! It's pointing out that really good teams will end up winning 54% of their games over a decade. The point is to be a very good team, not to try and win a certain number of games.

Is firing your entire coaching staff a part of the sustainability model???
It doesn't seem like those coaches were able to do anything for Julio though. I know he has his own hitting coach, the same guy that a lot of the big name Latin players use. I wonder if that's helpful or not.
What do you think?

OPS

2022 .853
2023 .818
2024 .734
2025 .798
2026 .708
Did you think I was unaware of the numbers? The question was rhetorical.

"If you go back and you look, in a decade those teams that win 54 percent of the time always wind up in the postseason. And they, more often than not, wind up in the World Series. So, there's your bigger-picture process.
They ALWAYS wind up in the post season??? So the goal is to make the WS in most Decades. So about once every 20 years. Got it. Still waiting!
Nobody wants to hear the goal this year is, 'We're going to win 54 percent of the time.' Because sometimes 54 percent is — one year, you're going to win 60 percent, another year you're going to win 50 percent. It's whatever it is. But over time, that type of mindset gets you there."
On Demanding Fan Patience & "Doing a Favor"
Going back to the first quote. How do you ALWAYS make the playoffs when you win only 50% of your games about every other year?? The Astros were the first fucking team in the history of baseball to do it this season but I guess that is ALWAYS. MYTH BUSTED!

"I can't tell you what year we're going to win the World Series. I can tell you that if we win 54 percent of our games over the course of a decade, you're going to play in the World Series.
Like I said the M's won 54% of their games from 1994 to 2003 and did NOT make the WS. Myth BUSTED!
We're actually doing the fanbase a favor in asking for their patience to win the World Series while we continue to build a sustainably good roster."
"If we make winning the World Series our goal, we will do insane things that will cut the sustainability part of the project short. That's not how we think. We think more broadly."
Thanks for the Favor you prick. Wtf happened to that sustainable roster dumb fuck??? You just won 46%! So we got the Worst of both worlds. Not only no WS but not even Sustainability that you promised.

My God what would our record have been if you actually made winning the WS your goal? 58-104??? Yeah because every team that makes winning the WS their goal all do just INSANE things.    Oh you think more broadly than trying to win the WS. SHUT the FUCK UP you greasy pretentious pompous idiotic clown.

How and why to you try to defend this fucking nonsense???

All it is was a statistical curiosity. It's not a formula for anything. I think he probably exaggerated with the comment, more often than not, it led to a WS appearance. Its not about planning your strategy forward. It's about evaluating it after the fact, You could look at that list and try to determine what were the Braves or Brewers strategy that led to them winning 54% of their games. It's not about trying to be the Braves or Brewers by trying to win 54% of them
