Blow It Out Your.......
Blow It Out Your.......
On the heels of a win it feels a little weird to start this thread but what the hell. Saturday's 18 - 4 blowout was [ fill in your own #*€%# adjective here]. Murphy had the best pitching stats of the night for crissakes. I know there are supposed to be growing pains during a rebuild, err I mean a reimagination, but these extreme losses are really hard to watch. I was whining to D-Train that I have already started tuning out this season because of the extreme losses. He suggested that the Astros probably went through the same thing when they lost 100 plus three seasons in a row. I was kind of curious so I took a look at the M's record this season and compared it to how many "blowouts" the Astros had from 2011-2013. For the heck of it, I defined a blowout as losing by 7 or more runs. I don't think these numbers mean a whole heck of a lot but the M's are on pace for 50% plus more blowouts than the rebuilding Atros ever posted in a season and might allow opponents to score 10 or more runs twice as much as they ever did.
Seattle Mariners
2019 Season: out of 48 games
5 times lost by 7 or more (on pace for 17)
6 times won by 7 or more (on pace for 20)
10 times opponents have scored 10 or more runs (on pace for 34)
Houston Astros
2103 Season: out of 162 games
11 times lost by 7 or more
4 times won by 7 or more
17 times opponents scored 10 or more runs
Houston Astros
2012 Season: out of 162 games
10 times lost by 7 or more
5 times won by 7 or more
11 times opponent scored more than 10 runs
Houston Astros
2011 Season: out of 162 games
9 times lost by 7 or more
4 times won by 7 or more
11 times the opponent scored 10 or more runs
Twice in those 3 years the Astros gave up 18 or more runs in a game - 19 two times.
On the bright side, Kikuchi is looking like he's figured out how to pitch in the USA.

Re: Blow It Out Your.......
There was a reason we called them the lastros. For this team to be so much worse just drives the dagger a little deeper into the back of every Mariner fan. Hope this all leads to a brighter future cause this blows
Re: Blow It Out Your.......
Before today we had a 5.17 ERA (fourth worst in baseball) 5.00 FIP (2nd worst) and 1.1 pitching WAR (2nd worst)

Re: Blow It Out Your.......
We should improve in every category the next 11 games. We could go on a streak....btw. It would be a good time to start game threads
Re: Blow It Out Your.......
The number that I think is more revealing than the blowouts is the number of times opponents have scored more than 10 runs. Texas has been ripping the cover off of the ball. I won't be surprised if the M's continue to struggle in the two series with the Rangers.
Re: Blow It Out Your.......
Now 11 times opponents have scored 10 or more runs (on pace for 36)
Re: Blow It Out Your.......
Mariner Futility Update June 5th -last night was another game where opponents scored more than 10 runs or more.
Seattle Mariners
2019 Season: out of 64 games
8 times lost by 7 or more (on pace now for 20)
14 times opponents have scored 10 or more runs (on pace now for 35+) - that's more than a 20% clip

Re: Blow It Out Your.......
I'm curious what the record is for giving up 10 or more runs in a season.
