You really should hit the link. He explains how he is grading. The grades are tilted toward upside potential and that is just one of his strategies.

Logan Gilbert has been a pleasant surprise. We could sure use a few breakout pitching prospects on the fast track. Kirby’s velocity in the article is the most optimistic I have seen. Originally he was said to be low 90’s and Churchill has him around 95 touching 98. My how quick he has taken that velocity up to ace level in a matter of weeks. Overall it’s encouraging, our reimagination track is likely a 3-4 yr plan now

Begs the question. If he has a 95mph fastball that touches 98 and has that mind boggling K/BB ratio, why in the hell did 20 teams pass on him. Maybe he is the DK Metcalf of the mlb draft? But DK had a lot of obvious reasons why teams passed. What are Kirby's issues. Only thing I can imagine is pitching for Elon?

As with most small college players, the initial reaction is to question the level of competition that Kirby has faced. This is a fair question and the CAA does not boast the same level of strength as other conferences.

After taking a closer look at Elon’s schedule, it shows that they have faced some strong competition. The Phoenix have faced off with seven teams that are projected to make the NCAA Tournament. Kirby pitched in one of those contests against Bryant University. He tossed a complete game, one-hitter, striking out 11 batters.

Another knock on Kirby has been that he has not adequately developed a pitch other than his fastball. Scouting reports agree that he has the makings of a four-pitch pitcher, but to this point, he hasn’t been forced to fully develop other pitches. The development of other pitches will likely determine how successful he is as a pro.

Too bad Jack Z wasn't concerned about DJ Peterson playing for a mid major located about a mile above sea level. btw he should be considering a new career as I am sure the White Sox are about to dump him.......
