interesting.. hopefully Trammell picks it up. We're absolutely STACKED in the OF with way Kyle Lewis is performing and that's w/o even considering Hanny. I hope he comes back to 18 form just for his sake. Sucks what has happened to himharmony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 3:42 pmPerhaps Taylor Trammell will be a lefthand-hitting Kyle Lewis.
Trammell and Lewis, outfielders who grew up less than an hour apart in Georgia. were both taken in the first round of the 2016 draft, Trammell out of high school and Lewis out of college. Trammell was taken one slot ahead of righthander Jordan Sheffield, older brother of Seattle lefthander Justus Sheffield.

And don't forget the piece coming from Toronto who should fit nicely coming into the mix....maybe they will actually get a quality 2b prospectVogelbomb wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 4:10 pminteresting.. hopefully Trammell picks it up. Hopefully Haniger is healthy and plays well to start next season. They may use him as a trade chip at the deadline if that's the case. France seems intriguing, although I think you have to take his 2019 stats in AAA pretty lightly. Its nice to have a good bridge option for 3B until Marte comes along.
Apparently Trammel had unjury issues last year, and finished strong. Having a 4 man OF rotation with him/Lewis/Kelenic/Julio is pretty dang good. Rotate the DH every 4 games between them if they are all deserving of playing every day. Trammel may be the 4th OF though as he might have the lowest hitting ceiling and floor, but probably has the best speed.
Munoz could be a closer. 21 years old only, and throws over 100. I think he's more intriguing than Bautista and Ramirez.
A little background that I learned about Torrens. Looks like he was a rule 5 pick that SD took and stayed on the bench for a year after he'd just gone through an injury. Basically took a year of development away from him. He had a pretty good season in AA last year and is still just 24. At the very least should be a legitimate mlb backup so we don't have to see as much of Hudson/Odom next year if Murphy is healthy.

Is there no chance Haniger plays this year? If he does, is there more value in having him play next year and dealing him at the deadline than trading him in the off season?

Re: Nola traded to the Padres
If this were the only trade they made, Padre fans would be beside themselves right now. Even with the acquisition of Clevinger they might still be. I mean, look at these guys player by player:
Nola: good hitter, plays multiple positions, but he's 30 and realistically he might get another couple years out of himself at most.
Adams: even if he comes back from injury, he's just a decent relief pitcher and his kind are a dime a dozen. The first rule of relief pitching is Relief Pitching Is Fickle.
Altavilla: who in their right mind looks at him and says, "Hey, he looks like someone who would be great in our bullpen". Especially after they just watched Wil Myers destroy his fastball for a walk-off. Thanks, Padres!
Trammell: not going to slobber over this young player as you can't bank on underachieving prospects pulling a Lewis, but the potential is obviously there. This is someone you should devote the next two years trying to develop, not give him up. On the other hand, he's been traded twice already. We'll see.
France: I think this guy alone makes it worth it. He hits at least as well as Nola and he's a lot younger.
Torrens: he should be our starting catcher going forward. You can't bank on Raleigh, so it's nice to have another catching prospect. He seems like he could be a decent player.
Munoz: again, Relief Pitching Is Fickle no matter how hard you throw, but even if we get just 2-3 good years out of him that's a win.

Preller is just reaching into that farm system and filing out chunks of it.

Even though Trammel is considered the big grab, I see a super long shot winner in Munoz..... The chance for a flamethrower right when we need one is extremely intriguing

The 2023 playoff picture is coming into focus
Re: Nola traded to the Padres
I think JD got Trammell to flip him. France will get the Vogey treatment, every chance to be DH so there really is no need for Trammell. He does not project to be a 4th OF, which we already have plenty of, so sell high to someone that has pitching/middle IF prospects....like Cleveland for a Zach Plesac.

That's an interesting take on it although I'd be surprised if they do flip him. If they did, imagine being Trammell, a top prospect getting traded three times before even making it to the show. Tell me that wouldn't get in your head.Bil522 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:16 pmI think JD got Trammell to flip him.
