Projected bWARs of selected players and pitchers

Post by DavidGee24 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 9:14 pm

After 71 games. Your average bWAR over a full season for a starting player or starting pitcher is about 1.7.

Encarnacion 4.5
Haniger 3.4
Vogelbach 3.0
Narvaez 2.0
Murphy 2.0
Gordon 1.1
Santana 1.1
Beckham 0.9
Healy 0.2
Smith minus 0.2
Moore minus 1.1

Leake 3.9
Gonzalez 0.9
Kikuchi 0.9

Some thoughts:
Haniger has hit a bunch of home runs but I'm just not seeing the 3.4
Being a DH is a bit of a handicap so Vogie's 3.0 is better than it looks
BOTH catchers at 2.0
Santana's 1.1 is a lot better than Gordon's 1.1
I can see Smith clawing his way back up by season's end, maybe to 1.0, which still stinks
We have a utility player who is actually going to lose three games all by himself this season in Moore, which is almost impossible for a utility player
Leake 3.9? HOW?!?

We dont see Hanigers WAR because you don't have to do anything but have a pulse to pile WAR in CF.

Thats actually very true, just look at Willie Mays' and Hank Aaron's WARs over the years. No way was Mays 3-4 WAR better than Aaron every year.

And, guys like Nyjer Morgan and Franklin Gutierrez aren't and never were 5 or 6 WAR players despite what Fangraphs' dumbass says.
