If I was one of them I'd do whatever I had to not to be hat in hand to the Mariners in the end.
Totally agree. Just mind numbing that he would say that in private let alone in public.

"we are trying to sign a second baseman as we speak". Sounds like they were in negotiations for a specific player to me. Wonder who it was.
Mariners Had Interest In Tommy La Stella

Before Tommy La Stella signed a three-year, $18.75MM deal with the Giants, the infielder drew some attention the Mariners, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter link). La Stella would’ve been an intriguing add for Seattle, providing a mostly right-handed hitting lineup with some addition balance from the left side. La Stella likely would have slotted in as the everyday second baseman — supplanting the planned Ty France/Shed Long/Dylan Moore timeshare at the position — and also seen some activity at first base or even third base when Kyle Seager required an off-day.

Thanks. This came out 1-2 days after the video was taken... Got to be referring to this. Wonder if it was money, or if he just liked SF better for other reasons and money was similar.

I'd say he picked the better situation. Maybe he met with Mather and Mather rubbed him the wrong way in the interview

I didn't read that comment fully, so not sure exactly what was said. But didn't he basically just lay out negotiations? They offered something, the players want more, and he thinks the players will end up giving in. He didn't think that Walker would get a 3 year deal. He kinda did, but its really more like a 2 year deal imo. Paxton did come down on his price, and thats why they signed him.
Hat in hand is what homeless beggars do. He took satisfaction and almost delight that FAs would have to come crawling and groveling back to the owners. It was bad.

I completely agree. Why would any free agent give us the benefit of the doubt after that quote?

At least now we know what "letting a player fall to us" actually means.

They are way more concerned about the bottom line than winning.

Demand new ownership. It's systemic.
Its an existential threat to making the playoffs!

The African American players are the only ones that he only said good things about.
