It may have been the plan since Covid, but Dipoto has steadily pushed back their plans to go for it by at least a year.

Now next year when not enough kids do well this year, they'll say 2023 will be their year to contend and 2022 will be another "development year".

They barely missed last season. They'll barely miss this season. And they'll probably barely miss next season because they won't see the progress they're now hoping for this year.

They get dopes from the fanbase to help them push expectations back another year for 5 years now. Nice work.
I think if Covid hadn't of affected us, we would've been competing this year, but everything got pushed back. Thats my guess anyways.

I think they get in this year. Especially with the bullpen they have. I think we nav one of the wild cards. Plus I wouldn't be surprised to see Dipoto grab someone at the deadline to jump the gun in free agency for 2022 and set up next year. Thinking a second baseman.
Would love to know exactly what got pushed back for the MLB team, given we're not relying on the AA kids.

A couple injuries? Other teams that have a shot at the Wild Card don't act defeated like the Mariners do, they continue to improve their team to improve their chances.

The Mariners are just a horribly run organization, so at least it makes sense. If any team ever needed Theo Epstein, it's the Mariners.

As cutting edge as they are, going with some unproven woman who probably never played above little league at this point would just be more inept management by the Mariners.

They need a baseball mind at the top if they want to win, not a businessman. Or woman.
Such a glass is half empty post. Might as well not even play this season then huh.

The vacuous grin combined with thousand yard stare is definitely die Woodys material. :)

Of course they should. They should have added another good player to solidify the outfield because they're so damn close. That's exactly what I'm saying.

First off, thats racist!!! Just kidding. As far as the AA kids, all of them would have had a chance to get some time at MLB to see what they have, and "go through their lumps" so to speak. With just 60 games and no minors, that pushed all that back a year. Guys like Kirby and Raleigh would have been knocking at the door of Seattle by now. Kelenic and Gilbert would have been in Seattle by July, and had a chance to adjust to the MLB. Thats not to mention all the guys who would have had a full season in the minors, and possibly worked their way up to the MLB by the end of 2021 like Julio.
Exactly.

So other teams would have just filled their holes for a year with FA's that were plentiful instead of sitting on their thumbs.

All the AAA guys would still get injury callups or force their way up.

But none of this put it off another year until we try nonsense because, Muh Prospex.

They added RP. They added a SP, finally. Now they're 1 player short of 90 wins when plenty of LF were easily had. Always 1 move short in the name of giving the youngsters a chance, before they've even earned it.

I'm gonna stop you right there. I think Kelenic will put up the same numbers as Rosario does, if not better.

Agree to disagree. I'm fine with them playing the long game here. Lets see what we have in Fraley, Shed, Kelenic, France this year. Chances are that Fraley and Shed won't be much, but many would have said the same thing about Moore last year. We'll know by midseason where the holes are. We'll know if Moore is the real deal or not. I don't think Mariners are competing for the World series with or without 1 more player this year, and I don't think it makes a difference in 2022 if they will truly compete or not. Playoffs would be great, but ultimately its about building a team that can win a World Series. I don't think signing 1 guy like Rosario makes that difference this year. It would be nice to have 1 more trade piece at the deadline, but I can see why they didn't go all in on getting someone. They set a price, and if they couldn't get someone at that price, they were fine going forward with what they have.

I think that they are multiple pieces away from going all in as well. Why not just put all your chips in and grab multiple players like the Mets, White Sox, and Padres have been doing, when the time comes. It hasn't come yet.

I also don't care how long it has been since the Mariners have been in the playoffs. Make decisions based on the best course for the future, not based on what has happened in the past.
