Criswell is a possibility, and he's out of options so he probably is going to be on the rosterLamda wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 5:31 amHe'll get 2-3 starts to start the season until Miller is ready...nobody else is ready to go....Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 4:00 amAre they still intending to make Hancock a starter? He looks like a garbage time /low leverage situation type of reliever that can maybe eat some innings in blow-outs.

Criswell is the other option. Some think it will be him.Lamda wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 5:31 amHe'll get 2-3 starts to start the season until Miller is ready...nobody else is ready to go....Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2026 4:00 amAre they still intending to make Hancock a starter? I really hope they keep Hancock in the bullpen. As a starter, he's fringe, but as the #7 arm in the bullpen he has legitimate value.
Re: Who will be the OD SS game thread
He was fringe but has added velo and has a .79 WHIP and 13.5 Ks per 9 this Spring. The #5 starters second start isn't for a few weeks so Miller might be ready for that one.

Personally I think our #5 SP spot is probably one of our stronger roster spots, relative to other rosters.
We have pretty good starting pitcher depth imo.

Re: Who will be the OD SS game thread
He catches a lot of the plate, especially with his 4-seam fastball. In longer outings, major league hitters will sit on that pitch and hit it over the fence. If his command was a little bit better and he could hang out on the corners more reliably, then okay. But the pitcher that he is right now will take his chances on these meatballs over the plate. You can see this pretty easily if you watch him on gameday.

If J.P's out, seems like the perfect opportunity to give Emerson and Young every day playing time at SS/2B and once J.P.'s back, send the underperformer down.
Plus, if Emerson does well that sets him up to earn a draft pick if he wins ROY.

Re: Who will be the OD SS game thread
I would prefer to not start Colt's clock if JP will be back in a few weeks. Colt is currently 11th most likely to win AL ROY at +2200. I am not making any decisions based on those odds.
I would go Rivas at SS and let's give Brock Rodden and his 1.090 OPS a shot at UT. People are talking about Dylan Moore coming back since he opted out.
.472 OPS this Spring. Cooked AF.

Re: Who will be the OD SS game thread
I think we are all eager to see the era of Colt Emerson begin, but I also think that it will be Rivas at SS to begin the season. And, it's not like Rivas is just a hunk of meat, he actually played well last year and, IMHO, has earned it.
