We're forgetting something guys. JD could easily get trigger happy now that he has a little pitching depth. Let's hope he's learned his lesson.
He's in prospect mode. He won't trade any of the top prospects unless he sees a steal. I could see guys in the 12-30 range being traded, but not the top 10-12

Kyle Lewis has been awesome this playoff series. 7-15 and hit a go ahead HR off Jordan Sheffield (justus brother) tonight. Evan White had a 2 run HR for good measure against him the next inning. Newsome with 5.2 ip and 1 ER. 3K, 1 BB.

There's 4 outfielders in the top 10, one of them would probably be the top piece. Just not Kelenic or Rodriguez.
I'm ok with also trading lower ceiling pitching for higher ceiling SP that's at least close if not MLB.

How did Kirby last until 20 last year? Mariners seem to be very fortunate to get both Gilbert and Kirby the last 2 years. Kirby seems to have an absolute floor as a #4 starter, with a ceiling as a 1-2 guy. 98 mph. Pinpoint control. 4 pitches that are all currently graded at least average, still has some projection with his frame.

He'll be another top 100 for the mariners at some point next season.
Here is my 2021 rotation using only guys currently in the org.

Gilbert
Kirby
Sheffield
Marco
Dunn
My preference would be putting Gerritt Cole atop that rotation to not worry about which young guy needs to be an ace.

Cole is going to want one of those 10 year 25 mil a year retirement deals, I would rather we take Luhnows Cole replacement than pay for Cole.

How are we taking their replacement? This idea makes zero sense to me. If they're replacing him with someone then that player would not be available without an extreme overpay. Giving away talent right now isn't preferable anyway which is why I'd rather overpay in cash and years for the 1 player who fits the bill.

Because Luhnow is a switched on GM who has a lot of salary grief comming his way so I am sure he already has a Cole replacement lined up who I would rather have than pay someone 250 million for 10 years because we are a team who can't really afford retirement deals.

You can't acquire an idea. Give me a name to target and we can have a discussion. My idea is that they don't want to replace the unreplaceable and therefore signing Cole also takes away from your rival.
