Re: Top 50 M's
The first thing I would do is take Dave Valle off the list. Seems that the guy felt like he had to put three catchers on there even though we've only had two catchers of significance in franchise history.
Valle comes off the list and OPS machine Ken Phelps goes on it.

It is funny Eric Hanson is listed as the M's #24 best player on Baseball Reference(it is just WAR as a player for the M's) and yet no mention of him in the Farkin' Fifty, though he has been posted on here.

How about scrap iron, you know stinson is credited with 3.2 bWAR in 1978. How can you retro grade a season for a player, particularly a catcher, and an outlier like that.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 20, 2025 7:48 pmThe first thing I would do is take Dave Valle off the list. Where are Orlando Mercado, Johnny Moses and Lenny Randle - how could they be left out? and Bobby Ayala of course!

He's an underrated Mariner, that's for sure. I remember that for the first couple years he was a pretty good hitter. Give me Scrap Iron at his best over Valle any day.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Nov 21, 2025 1:07 amHow about scrap iron, you know stinson is credited with 3.2 bWAR in 1978. Re: Top 50 M's
Funny thing about Ayala is that even at his worst in 1998, Norm Charlton was worse in 1997 and might have had the worst season for a relief pitcher in Mariners history although the worst WAR belonged to 1980 Byron McLaughlin.
Also, while Mercado and Moses might well have been our worst catcher and outfielder who played in at least 100 games for us, the infield spot has to go to Pete O'Brien.

In 1992 Jeff Schaefer hit .122 with a .325 OPS and -0.7 WAR
