Lowest chase rate in MLB. Maybe at a minimum he will be a good example...

That would probably keep his numbers up, but personally I doubt they're going to full time him.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 5:28 pmThey're likely going to play him full-time and not platoon him as he's a full-time player. If management tells him "We're going to platoon you against left-handed pitching" his first reaction is probably going to be man, fuck these clowns.
He has a .690 OPS vs. RHP this season, which isn't bad in itself, but when thats 70% of pitching it's pretty underwhelming.
They'll drop him right into Refsnyders playing time. Or won't surprise me to see Ward just replace Robles and Refsnyder, Ward, and Garver all in the lineup together if they decide not to cut the millions they owe Refsnyder still.

Yeah since Raley is out there is nobody for him to platoon with.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 5:28 pmThey're likely going to play him full-time and not platoon him as he's a full-time player. I'm partial to players that walk a lot, so I like the Taylor Ward trade. I'm so tired of our franchise players giving away plate appearances.

I mean... bottom line is he's a 140 OPS+ hitter vs LHP's.
Refsnyder? 43 OPS+.
You've just replaced your biggest liability on the roster vs left handed pitching with a guy who handles them very well.
Ward is also on pace for 3 WAR... pretty good for a team whose right field has put up -1.5 WAR on the year.

No, I mean that's the only place where Garver and Solano hit well for us, in that series at Wrigley last year.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 5:42 pmWrigley? Refsnyder wasnt a platooned player until he showed up here either.
They can't help themselves when they sniff a platoon opportunity.

Typical Dip trade - unwilling to give up anything in his precious farm system, that he cares way more about than winning a WS, to get anyone good / impactful so he always gets the rejects having a bad year hoping they rebound. This is also a move to make it seem like they did something when they really didn't.

Refsnyder had a 159 wRC+ vs LHP last season. Then he got plopped in a Mariners platoon.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 5:55 pmI mean... bottom line is he's a 140 OPS+ hitter vs LHP's.
