First ballot hast hit the Tracker. Ichiro yes, Felix no. Imagine the Shit storm and Mariner X if it was a no vote.

Suzuki was a revolutionary talent who paved the way for others to follow, and he continues to give back to the game. He embodies as much of a unanimous selection as anyone who’s reached this point.
Really? There are 7 guys in the HOF with over a 1.000 OPS that weren't unanimous.

Ichiro is 901st with a .757 OPS right below Walt Dropo and Wil Cordero and right about Bruce Bochte and Dave Henderson

There are 22 guys with over 100 WAR. Ichiro has 60.0 WAR which is 127th.

But he embodies as much as a unanimous vote all those guys??? :| :?

5 votes in. 5-0 Ichiro. 0-5 Felix. 5-0 CC Sabathia. 4-1 Wagner. Probably will have 3 inductees this time.

Darren, you are comparing apples and kumquats. Jeter was near unanimous and if you took his stats from age 27, you would find that he got only 43.2 WAR in the same time frame Ichiro got 60 WAR. Beltre got 66.8. Edgar 66.3. Rose 61.3. Frank Thomas 44.9. Roberto Alomar 37.4. Andre Dawson 38.5. Junior 33.7. I could go on and on. Ichiro could have hit for more power. He could have been more aggressive on the base paths. But the bottom line is that what he did, in the time frame he did it in, was really quite remarkable and, by using the correct numbers, you can see he is HOF worthy just based on his MLB numbers.

To me the difference is Jeter, Thomas, Rose, Edgar, Beltre... none of those guys played a position that prevented a better bat from joining the team.

There were plenty of RF bats while Ichiro was here that would've made us better than Ichiro did. To top it off they paid him 20% of the overall budget, further preventing other signings.

If Ichiro could have played SS, CF, or 2B, he would have been fine.

Instead he blocked a Buhner type bat simply by playing an offense-first position.

And, of course, he didn't have the good bat like Thomas or Edgar to justify the offense-first position.

It's like playing a shortstop or CF at another position. Of course they'll be good defensively. But they'll block a better bat. Just like Ichiro did.

He is HOF worthy. Not arguing that. But Kramer insinuated there was never another player that embodied a unanimous selection more than he does which is absolutely ludicrous.

Most hits in the world during his career. The first true
Japanese position player superstar to make it big in MLB and the pressure that comes with all of that. Prior to Ichiro, there was no thought of a Japanese position player being good enough to play MLB. It was a pretty unique situation, almost Jackie Robinsonesque, without the overt racism of course. There should be many that were unanimous selections, but the BBWA voters have lots of petty assholes voting for the HOF so you only have 1 so far.
