Mariners in on my FA pick

Masataka Yoshida would certainly fit the Mariners' control-the-zone philosophy with an unworldly 82 walks and only 42 strikeouts in 515 plate appearances this year. If his 2022 OBP of .445 translates well to the States, Yoshida could land on top of a proposed M's lineup (with two other additions):

DH Masataka Yoshida L
1B Ty France R
LF Michael Conforto L
CF Julio Rodriguez R
3B Eugenio Suarez R
C Cal Raleigh S
RF Mitch Haniger R
SS J.P. Crawford L
2B Gleyber Torres R
Did you see my post 18 minutes before yours? lol

Really hope that don't with two corner OFers with massive injury concerns just to save money.
A breakfast break in the middle of writing my post. :)

Ichiro's best BB/K rate was 62/36 in 1997. Good but not quite 2/1.

I'm hoping Dipoto acts fast on the trade market instead of waiting to see which players end up coming hat in hand, because everything I read says that every other team needs corner outfielders and second basemen.

He needs to go hard and fast after the players they've identified as best fits so he doesn't get stuck sitting on his thumbs (again).
Dipoto, to my knowledge, rarely moves fast on FA's. Seems like he always wants to see where the market is going. Which is ridiculous when you think how close we came to beating the Astros.
Not sure if you caught that I said Dipoto should move quickly on trades, or just adding to what I said, but yeah, you're definitely right that he doesn't move fast on free agent bats, at the very least.

Or, more likely, the bats want to see all available offers before they rush to sign, but still, free agency likely won't be our quick solution.

And Jay's of course right that Judge needs to clear the deck before things start moving.

Maybe that holds up the trade market, but that's what I'm saying, if there are moves available that they've identified as guys they want in trades, hop on it so they don't end up the last kid picked for kickball. Or, no bats coming begging hat in hand, again.

Just saw this. Mariners expected to be "top suitors" for Masataka Yoshida. Free agency cannot get here fast enough. I'm going to be up all night watching highlight reels of this guy.

Morosi says the Rays are expected to offload some players in trades over the next 48 hours.

Brandon Lowe and Randy Arozarena would be some nice additions. Lowe would be much easier to acquire and fills the role of a much needed left bat however.

Lowe is controlled rather cheaply through 2026 if he matches his production prior to 2022.
