Did DiPoto say there was a "big" bat coming or just a position player?

“I do think there is one more player that is coming along for the ride that is not in a Mariners uniform just yet,” Dipoto said.

I don't think the mariners are feeling enough pressure. I think the cardinals are asking for both Montes and Cijntje. The mariners are willing to go into the season with Young
No way to tell until Spring Traing starts, I guess. Jerry said they plan on adding a bat or by Spring Training. So we'll find out in the next 45 days.
M's start in 9 days not 45.
Dipoto said before or during Spring Training. Thats February and March

I wouldn't even call Brendan Donovan a bat. Much less a big bat.
I wouldn't either. But he's definitely a contact hitter that extends the lineup.

They are not trading for Donovan. Nor is Donovan getting traded anywhere else either. The cardinals are obviously asking a ton for him valuing him as a star.
Or the Mariners are waiting for the right time to pull the trigger.
What is the right time??? Bloom isn't backing down. It is in the next week or July.
We don't know what Bloom has said, nor if the Mariners are going to make a deal with the Cardinals. Dipoto said they're planning on doing something. Who knows what it is. Might not even be Donovan. Could be Marte regardless of what Arizona's GM says.

Absolutely. He would be our leadoff hitter, something we don't even have. With what we plan to roll out in RF/2B/3B we should not be scoffing at a 119 wRC+

So not necessarily a position player? It could be another reliever.

So surprised, same old ownership. No additional payroll. Call me shocked.

He didn't specify the time but we know Donovan will be pulled off the market by the 12th. btw who exactly is going to be playing in the WBC that will give Emerson more opportunities. Insane how they make shit up and expect people to believe. He will get more opportunities because they didn't bother to fill out the roster properly.
“I do think there is one more player that is coming along for the ride that is not in a Mariners uniform just yet,” Dipoto said.

WBC creates spring training opportunity for M’s prospects
Another topic addressed was the World Baseball Classic, which will take a large number of players out of Mariners camp.

“We have in the organization 19 players on preliminary rosters – 13 are associated with the big league team – and we think we will lose 11 when it starts,” Dipoto said. “Only the Dodgers have more.”

This leaves huge opportunity for the Mariners’ prospects in spring training. Dipoto relayed a conversation he had with Colt Emerson earlier in the day, with his message being to take advantage of the runway we are giving you. He’s excited to see what the 20-year-old top prospect is able to do.
